charon 4,943 Posted February 16, 2018 * not as funny if you have to explain... But curling stones used to ALL come from the the volcanic plug between Kintyre and Ayr, off the Southern end of Arran, called the Ailsa Craig. Think a Welsh quarry got in on that act now. Fascinating place any time I've sailed past. ** think a Churchill link from WW2 too, but can't remember it.

Joey Russ 7,210 Posted February 16, 2018 I will definitely take into consideration the good pieces of advice. I also found some of the posts to be slightly amusing. Thanks guys. You really did make me feel a little better. EDIT: Well, my brain is working so well today, I clicked on the wrong thread apparently... 2

Deathray 2,940 Posted February 17, 2018 An earthquake in the UK and the BBC aren't even reporting. Oh I forget, it didn't effect London so it didn't happen.

charon 4,943 Posted February 17, 2018 Thousands of earthquakes every year in the UK. What's your threshold here deathers?
msc 18,397 Posted February 17, 2018 ^ 15 since Hogmanay apparently. 20-30 notable ones per year (by UK standards, see below) but hundreds of ones nobody even notices bar your experts. They happen several times a year in the Bristol Channel too because its built around an ancient fault line, but even the biggest earthquake in recorded UK history (in Wales in the 1980s) was a whole 5.4 (bigger than today's 4.4) and it caused... minor damage to some chimneys. Terrifying, hold the front page...

One that is actually felt across a wide area of the country (Cornwall to Liverpool (some outlier reports of up to Blackpool) and wales through to central England for this one) included reports of the movement of objects. Anything above about mag 4.0 will usually involve the movement of objects near the epicentre - this was a mag 4.2 or above according to USGS. I'm not saying some random minor tremor that shakes your door handle should be reported but this is a pretty big one as UK standards go. It'd be nice for Britain to be hit by at least one proper (mag 7.0 or above) earthquake in my lifetime though, with no loss of life.

Bryan Jones, 72, of Treorchy, Rhondda Cynon Taff, said: "It was like a tremor but it was quite frightening for my granddaughter - she swore a little bit and my wife got up asking 'What was that?'" Louise Craig, from Connah's Quay in north Wales, said it was "the most excitement I've had on a Saturday afternoon for a while". 2
Bibliogryphon 9,509 Posted February 22, 2018 Currently on the Eurostar to Brussels for my third meeting in the Belgian capital since the beginning of the year. Gave me a nice opportunity to finish the verification for Scavenger Hunt. Next task will be to cross reference the DDP picks with my 1000 name long list to pick out those who have still not been selected.

YoungWillz 20,919 Posted February 22, 2018 It's bothering me that after Trump's "Shitshow of Listening" session that he now maintains arming teachers is the way to go, praises the NRA and in turn the NRA praise him. So I ask: Do Americans carry their weapons when travelling in other countries where that isn't the norm? If an American is in the UK for example, should I be concerned that they are toting their guns?
