She also wrote vast chunks of Fawlty Towers (Cleese once admitted it was in the region of 70%+).

Hmm - and they got divorced during the writing/making of series two (1979). That series has The Psychiatrist episode, the one with the guest from Hell and the "anniversary" episode in which Basil gets Polly to substitute for Sybil and pretend to be "ill" (when Polly protests she doesn't look like Sybil, Basil says; "You're a woman aren't you?)

So did Connie just recycle the worst moments of their marriage into the script?

The second series took years to write (as the marriage was falling apart) and Booth refused to speak about the show for 30 years or so afterwards, although she did later give the OK for the stage version. So maybe? I did have a book on this somewhere - possibly in storage from one of many moves - where they interviewed all the Pythons about the 70s, and John Cleese basically moans about everyone - Gilliam for being a budget killer on the films, Jones for being a perfectionist, Chapman for his alcoholism, Palin for being "too damned nice"! But he did mention about Fawlty Towers that (paraphrased) "Connie wrote it and I got the praise".

When I have read interviews with Connie Booth she is not harsh or bitter about Cleese but I think she was slightly in awe of him but he was too intense and fast moving to stay married to

To me it just sounds like he doesn't understand the topic

I didn't like him in the bond movies. He was nowhere near the level Desmond Llewelyn was as Q. Even Whishaw was a bit better than Cleese in that role.

I'm almost sure that if Llewelyn hadn't died in a car crash in 1999, he'd probably have been Q until atleast Casino Royale (2006), maybe Quantum of Solace (2008), maybe even Skyfall (2012)

Me neither - not an easy thing to survive and survivors still take a beating in terms of the impact on their physcial well being.

I presume the committee are paying attention.

True story/Tangential Anecdote

I met Eric Idle  he autographed a pair of men's briefs with "cute ass" which I gave to my husband. Now that my husband is gone from, yes, pancreatic cancer, I would like to auction the never-worn briefs. Mr. Idle on Twitter said he would help.

I reckon Idle will go next, then Gilliam, then Cleese, then Palin.

Anyone disagree?

I think it is too close to call

Apart from Palin. I'd say he is by far the healthiest and probably the most active one (outside of Twitter).

Gilliam and Cleese have both been on the edge for a while and I don't think Cleese's Twitter/Political antics will have help his blood pressure and Idle has been looking frailer and frailer every time I've seen him.

I have a horrible feeling Palin will drop suddenly ahead of Cleese and Gilliam.

You are right. That IS a horrible feeling!

Although Cleese is overweight and doesn't look a picture of health, he has good genes - his mother lived to be 101 and his father didn't die young (79) either.

No offence to Terry Gilliam but it would be a bit rubbish if the last Python standing was the one who didn't appear in anything well known and just did the annoying cartoons.

Sadly, as I really like Eric Idle, I don't think you can refer to anyone who has recently had pancreatic cancer as being healthy.

John Cleese looking quite bad in this recent pic.

Presumably for the spectacularly ill-advised and guaranteed to bomb Fawlty revival

Eric Idle turns 80 tomorrow and has sold his house in Los Angeles.

Recently "survived" pancreatic cancer. Hmm.

"Records indicate the buyer is fellow Brit and London-based gallery owner India Rose James — an heiress to her late grandfather Paul Raymond’s multimillion-dollar porn and property empire — who doled out $6.5 million for the place, or nearly $5 million more than the legendary Monty Python star and his wife Tania paid musician Mike Oldfield for the property some 18 years ago, back in April 1995."

Why are American journalists so thick?
