If it's not blueticked then there's no penalty for changing the username. That’s a niche theory. Isn’t it more likely they genuinely built up that follower count, then simply wiped all their own tweets, then changed their display pic, handle and screen name? Not hard to achieve, but obviously takes time.

Unsurprisingly, they're still utterly relevant today - 40+ years later. Nice Work and Small World are decent reads, even if you've never worked in the system. Really, they're so close to the reality, it's a bit rude to proffer them as satirical.

The number of mutual friends, hard nosed old timer sorts who don't do this lightly, who have dropped him like a hot potato is very telling, could be tip of iceberg tbh. Lawrence Miles called him out years ago for being "creepy" around young female fans and the fact he never got warned by legal for saying it is in hindsight quite telling.

Well I'm not asking the BBC for my "Jim fixed it for me" badge back after I returned it to them in an unmarked package with a suitably horrified letter. Come to that I'm still a bit concerned about my Crackerjack Pencil to be honest. 1
