Here we go then, David Quantick's Showbiz Pals 2k16:

1. Asif, Hassan (captain)

2. Angelil, Rene

3. Brinson, Monty

4. Christie, Errol

5. Crowe, Martin

6. Delpech, Michel

7. Diski, Jenny

8. Edhi, Abdul Sattar

9. Ellis, Bob

10. Esterhazy, Peter

11. Feek, Joey

12. Fekete, Thomas

13. Granger, Kate

14. Haggerty, Dan

15. Halpin, Luke

16. Harrington Jr, Pat

17. Kincaid, Rowena

18. Marks, Howard

19. Mother Angelica

20. Travis, Kris

Surprisingly (to me), the only one of those I didn't know was ill is Luke Halpin. Must say something about doing even a modicum of research or something.

Brinson/Christie/Ellis/Fekete were all cut from my final list of forty or so. Brinson due to a choice of candidates, Christie because I couldn't find out how bad his cancer was, Ellis because there was rumours he's doing better.

Halpin and Mother Angelica were my predictions for uniques this year, Halpin's illness I stumbled across by total fluke and if it's as bad as it sounds then he's a goner in 2016 and surely a definite obit.

Yeah, I saw his Go Fund Me page on a quick google of "Luke Halpin cancer" and he does sound fecked.

And Garn posts to confirm the only person I thought might be unique if the cards went right isn't - David Tennant's dad. Still, I think uniques and their worth are overestimated by the also rans from 30th place downwards.

Bit of a shame to see the Langhorne unique go, but I knew someone else would catch that...

I know you were pessimistic about your chances last night, but that team looks like another one to go far.

Naturally, I think nine of them are, in particularly, very wise.

The only query would be on John Wicks and Suzanne Wright getting qualifying obits. They're certainly sick enough.

Yeah, I think I fall into the mindset of "can't seem to find a ton of good off-forum names so my research must be lacking", and then I forget that people were a lot more generous this year with sharing names...

Wright I'm fairly confident will get an obit because the Autism Speaks press announcement of her pancreatic cancer diagnosis made Reuters UK, so surely Autism Speaks would also have a press announcement of her death that likewise makes it to said site? The biggest problem may very well be that I can't seem to find any evidence of her year of birth so I'm hoping that'll turn up when she goes. Wicks, along with the Cuban trumpeter, is a "let's hope to God the Independent considers them worthy of a slow day backlog obit" gamble.

Are people talking Phil Gartside's "illness" seriously then? It struck me as a classic "welp, I've got Bolton into massive financial shit and everyone hates me, better find an excuse to vanish from the public eye for a few months" deal.

Firstly congrats to Mr Quantick for a quite remarkable finish to the 2015 competition - candidate for best last week twist ever?

Secondly I'm just wondering if some of the picks might not get obits this year. Even Ms popular Joey Feek?

Case in point: Jennifer Glass. Featured in the Daily Mail in 2014:

http://www.dailymail.co.uk/health/article-2599587/My-year-lung-cancer-pictured-day-day-Woman-diagnosed-disease-documents-journey-diagnosis-hair-loss-recovery.html

However Glass died on 11 August 2015, and would have been a unique pick for "Beatles are dying in the wrong order" however the Daily Mail didn't report it, neither did other UK sources.

http://www.smdailyjournal.com/articles/lnews/2015-08-14/right-to-die-advocate-dies-without-reprieve-san-mateo-resident-jennifer-glass-fought-for-new-legislation/1776425148475.html

The Beatles could have gone up from 63= to 30=.

ps MIB, her death is not yet updated on the relevant list (list of those who didn't get obits)

Gutted that someone else picked up on Karel Gott. I was hoping to get a second Czech unique after getting Vaclav Havel himself a few years back.

Incidentally, before he hit the big time as a singer he was prosecuted for exposing himself on a bus, some say it was this conviction that enabled the communists to keep him under their control through the normalisation era. Perhaps in another time another place, he might have ended up on Yewtree?

Joey Feek will obit. I've counted 14 articles in the Daily Mail on her...from the last month. There's much more in the time since diagnosis. That's more than there has been in the last year about Dennis Skinner!

As far as I can see, this Jennifer Glass is not notable for anything unconnected with her illness. Joey Feek otoh is a Grammy-nominated popular entertainer.

Mine are in my signature.

The almost certainly a unique pick I spoke about earlier is Silvio Ciccone aka Madonna's dad. My sister has tickets to see Madge in Melbourne, where she hasn't played for donkeys years and has form in scrapping Down Under tours before so it'd be typical if something happened on the eve of it.

Damn. Missed out on this. Guess I should have read more of the website pre-31 December. I run a similar, but less well organised version on another forum. If I knew this existed, I could have saved myself the effort :P
