From the various articles I've read, it is something like 15 or 20 times more likely in those who have played rugby in particular, and less elevated in certain footballers. I believe it has something to do with concussions more than heading the ball.

And...if the person concerned is 5 foot 5 inches and regularly colliding with big guys up to and including those a full 12 inches taller...

 

Probably not a comfortable conversation to be having this week but doubtless someone will present that argument eventually

Gutted to hear that. He was an inspirational player in his day for my county, who I remember watching during his county career. His career was also sadly cut short, as his life will be.

Brian Wallach (wiki), a businessman and lawyer turned ALS advocate who has never been mentioned on the forum before, has been suffering from the disease since 2017 when he was given 6 months to live. He recently appeared at the Democratic Nation Convention. Independent.

 

After 6+ years of having ALS he doesn't look like he'll be troubling us just yet, but deserves a DeathList introduction.

David Lawrence has just been on BBC News (link).

 

He is to breathing quite heavily and his speech has quite clearly declined. It seems as though the disease has taken control quite rapidly considering it's only been 3 months since his diagnosis.
