Who Should Be On The 2018 Deathlist?

Recommended Posts

It’s a tradition that this thread is listed and it’s not something that’s listed for the first time. Do you really think they would want to go through over 60 pages in the ideas and possibilities thread with a certain amount of it being just clutter? That’s why why this thread exists...

Also, I think Michael Martin, former Speaker is a good punt. He’s taken a leave of absence from the Lords, is in his 70s and quite heavy.

I met Martin once when he was Speaker or deputy Speaker, I forget which, school thing, I didn't pay attention to a word he said but my friend (who has the best nose for politics I know) was with me and afterwards he replied "What a shifty bastard". So, few years later, his downfall wasn't too much of a surprise.

School had option for a class talk of Martin, Donald Dewar and I forget the third but it was an older Tory. Went for Martin, the dullest choice, and Dewar and the Tory were dead within a year or two. Useless.

Of course, now that I think about it, Lou Rawls is more obscure than Dury, yet he's still significant enough and well known enough to make the list. i think my general point still stands though, Gilbert and Lima aren't significant enough to make the list...

I'm quite into music but the front page was the first I'd heard of Rawls back then. I suspect he was more known to an older audience though.

I'd be very surprised if you'd genuinely never heard "You'll Never Find Another Love Like Mine".  That was his biggest hit (and only UK hit).  It's been in loads of films and TV shows.  One of those cases where people may not know the artist, but play them the song and they go "Oh yeah, I know this."

Aye, Toast, I have now! This was back in 2008 when I first found the site. I wasn't even married or out of uni back then! :D

I'm one of those people though.  It was only sometime in the last few years that I put that song and Lou Rawls together!  And that was during a pub quiz when it featured in a music round and someone else in the team said, "Lou Rawls".  I'd heard the name, and I'd heard the song hundreds of times, but never really thought about who sang it.

Daniel arap Moi, former Kenyan President has Alzheimer’s and is 95 next year. Easy hit...

He is 94 next year. Anyway watch this video of him voting at the latest Keyan elections. They practically put his finger on "vote for Kenyatta".

The article about Daniel arap Moi’s health states that he’s no longer able to recognise the people around him. I’ll give him 6 months.

Rolf Harris - regardless of his age - is still focussed and angry to the point he's taking legal action against at least one of those who prosecuted him for noncing

I think he'll see 2019

Well, only 7-8 people need to be dropped...

In my opinion, those are:

Ian St. John

Honor Blackman

Doug Ellis

QE II

Jimmy Carter

Pierre Cardin

and Lord Carrington.

Maybe also Betty White.

The new ones should be:

Franco Zeffirelli

Sumner Redstone

John McCain

Johnny Hallyday

Jacques Chirac

Dilip Kumar

and damnit, where are the women?

Joanne Woodward

and Pearl Carr.

Edit: Maybe they'll keep fewer than 25.

Methinks it’s about time for Mel Brooks to make an appearance...

Who should be on the list? Well, people who are still alive who were good picks who have been missed in previous years!

But, we need to start including big names with no particular health problems who were born around 1930 - that means your Sean Connerys and Clint Eastwoods need to start making an appearance on the list around now as they are old enough and it would be bad to miss them.
