msc 18,480 Posted January 1, 2018 Some interesting teams in. What big teams are still to reveal? The Living End, drolercoaster, Heading nowhere, Deceased Hose, To Kill a Gabor Bird, for a few I'm interested in. Also Banshees lot if he lists them in here. Apologies if I've forgotten someone. They're all in the sub bench now, and I ended up replacing them with a young musician, a survivor from my 2017 squad, and a new punt pick. Swapped out Johnny Clegg, Bernard Tapie, and Bart Starr. Devin Lima, Stefan Karl Stefansson, and Marieke Vervoort took their place.

msc 18,480 Posted January 2, 2018 With a glance over the teams announced here so far, and with some big teams not announced yet, here's my immediate gut feeling for a DDP 2018 top 10 from the forum alone: 1. DDT c 158 points 2. DI c 157 3. Dead Cow c 150 4. Joey c. 144 5. Rad c. 138 6. Toast c. 130 7. Engineer c. 124 8. Gcreptile c. 122 9. Eesti c 120 10. Sean c 112 So, if Cow isn't really a dark horse now (2nd in 2017), I guess Joey is your potential break out star if the cards all fall correctly. I like Toast's team though, that's a floor of circa 130 if only the people expected to die do ie Vervoort, Stiles, Srefansson, Miller, McCain, Jowell, James, Gilbert, Elias and Brackers. If Newton-John or Nolan's cancers spread, or Ricksen goes downhill quicker than I expect, or the likes of Herd and Greaves, that is a team with a right potential to crack the top 5, imo. Last year I did think Spade would run away with the DDP at this point but on retrospect: On 1/2/2017 at 02:57, msc said: TL/DR: Bert's the sleeper Chorizo type this year, imo. Joey Russ 7,229 Posted January 2, 2018 You know it's going to be real interesting next year, cause if most, if not all the gambles come into fruition, I could easily see a podium place for me by the end of the year. That said, I can easily see myself not getting any of my gambles and fall out of the top 20 next year. But there certainly is risk involved if you want to win, and there is lot of risky teams this year. DDT, for example, has a lot of the names that he mentioned himself on the forum, and a lot of 70 - 80 year olds with no drop 40 chance, as well as not going for any FFBI types this year (a gamble that I am taking myself). GCReptile didn't go for Stefansson or Gilbert, and a lot of his team are could die tomorrow or could die in a few years type names. Plus, he got slightly unlucky with losing two picks and having to replace them with 80 - 90 year olds with no drop 40 chance. But people have won with picks those ages who didn't make the drop 40 as recently as last year (Mario Soares). So I honestly think it's going to be a while before we can start to see who the real contenders are because there are so many gambles on most teams... Grim Up North 3,727 Posted January 2, 2018 So my first team ever in the DDP as follows. I have realised since submitting that not making Marieke Vervoort my joker might have been a beginner's mistake but I am unsure if assisted dying is classed as murder (I don't think so) or suicide (I don't think so) but probably still an unnatural cause so that's going to mean I've thrown away 6 points. GUN Fishing Joker (Pick 1): Stefan Karl StefanssonPick 2: Erica Garner DNS Subbed by DJ CasperPick 3: Liam MillerPick 4: Linda NolanPick 5: John McCainPick 6: Nobby StilesPick 7: Patrick CrynePick 8: Leah BracknellPick 9: Rayya EliasPick 10: Vanessa GoodwinPick 11: Tessa JowellPick 12: Tiffany YoungsPick 13: Greg GilbertPick 14: Gabriel GrunewaldPick 15: Dean FrancisPick 16: Total BiscuitPick 17: Steffan LewisPick 18: Pete FratesPick 19: Marieke VervoortPick 20: Simon Ricketts Then I spent the next 48 hours really regretting not putting Ami Brown in my team so I entered a second team which is just the same as the first team exceot I subbed out Gabriel Grunewald for Ami Brown. This was not a planned tactic just an amendment to help me sleep at night. GUN Away Joker (Pick 1): Stefan Karl StefanssonPick 2: Erica Garner DNS Subbed by DJ CasperPick 3: Liam MillerPick 4: Linda NolanPick 5: John McCainPick 6: Nobby StilesPick 7: Patrick CrynePick 8: Leah BracknellPick 9: Rayya EliasPick 10: Vanessa GoodwinPick 11: Tessa JowellPick 12: Tiffany YoungsPick 13: Greg GilbertPick 14: Ami BrownPick 15: Dean FrancisPick 16: Total BiscuitPick 17: Steffan LewisPick 18: Pete FratesPick 19: Marieke VervoortPick 20: Simon Ricketts

Not at all, nor the Crumbles or any other team. It's fairly easy to make a guess that someone with, say, Stage IV lung cancer, is likely going to die soon. That's a bit dull (not for the person of course). It's far more interesting to come up with a team of notable older folk, but also, nigh impossible to predict. Most of your teams could live another 5 years or go tomorrow! Anyhow, I wish you luck! 3 hours ago, Eesti said: In this algorythm of yours, who did you consider as certain hits? Vervoort (drop 40), Cryne, Bracknell (drop 40), McCain (drop 40), Elias, Mary Wilson (alas), Frates, clive James (drop 40), Chivers, Moss, Stefansson (Drop 40), Jowell (Drop 40), Nevin, Remigino, Lewis, Cappotelli, Miller, Gilbert, Blanco, Goodwin, Stiles (drop 40), Rae, Lynott, Youngs, Toothill - it's an estimated floor rather than a prediction (ie if everyone we expect to go does go, you should get at least 120 points). The estimated ceiling comes from Gcreptile's wonderful maths which is somewhat beyond simple old me. 2 hours ago, Grim Up North said: GUN Fishing Joker (Pick 1): Stefan Karl Stefansson etc This team, on paper, will be right up there too. Chorizo's team is full of gambles, which makes early predictions underestimate him. They came through in 2016 and he nearly won though, so a team to watch. Predictor 1,018 Posted January 2, 2018 Made a Venn-diagram over the three main types of deathpooling picks and how they intersect. Using this as a template, where do your picks fit in? Cancer mums: Those who are neither famous (in the traditional meaning of the word) nor old, but quite ill or even terminal. Obitability is a toss-up, sometimes it works and sometimes it doesn't. List of the Lost: Those who are both old and ill, but lack the necessary fame to get obits when they do die. Theme team fillers: Similar to the above, except there are no known health issues (other than old age). Usually used to fill out remaining spots for theme teams. The worst kind of picks for ambitious deathpoolers. Olivia de Havilland: Famous old people that have no problems with their health. The kind pick that tends to stay on the DeathList for years and years by virtue of their fame. Non-serious picks, i.e. Bieber: Usually wishful thinking, and/or not really taking the competition seriously. Could also be part of some theme teams. DL-types: Look up the word "deathlisty" in the DeathList glossary lexicon at your local library, and this is what you will see: Someone who is both old enough, sick enough and famous enough to be a prime candidate for the committee. Title-winning picks: These are the ones that guarantee high scores by being terminally ill, relatively young and left a sufficient mark in Britain to get a write-up in newspapers such as BBC.
