If any of you have voted for this moron, why? Female Doctor Who robs boys of role models, claims Tory MP - BBC News

He said it has pushed young men to crime.

We are a country that elects people who believe people go around stabbing because Doctor Who has a minge.

Not nearly enough one legged transgender lesbians being put forwards for the role of the next Doctor.

Do you think if I identified as a one legged transgender lesbian I'd get the job?

This seems the best place to put this (ahead of time, the thread for Whovians), as it doesn't seem to be posted anywhere else (going by the search function...) and the person is well known for her commentary on 'Doctor Who'.   It is of course, none other than Mary Whitehouse, decency campaigner and decent 2001 DL hit.

BBC article "Was moral campaigner Mary Whitehouse ahead of her time?"

Ncuti Gatwa (most famously off of Sex Education) has been announced as the 14th doctor.

Brilliant choice imo!

(note to Harry: try using humour in a way that’s humorous rather than cynical unoriginality)

(reply to Harry’s second round of pettiness: you nicked your name from a footballer you silly bastard; look in the name change thread for my name change, come back if you want any help with some of the trickier words in it)

I say, how dreadfully androcentric - he's nowhere near being the disabled, black transsexual Doctor the BBC should be providing us with in this day and age. :P

(note to self: never try using humour in DW thread)

(note to The Quim Reaper: whatever happened to your hilarious original username?

You thought it funny + nobody else did = name change)

May I ask if his family moved here as refugees from the Rwandan genocide?

Anyhow, as long as John Bishop remains on the show I will continue to boycott my viewing.

They did, yeah. He would’ve been a toddler.

Thought he’d be the youngest Doctor so far but he’s older than Matt Smith and Peter Davison were.

Well at least he's male. All the old dinosaurs complaining about Doctor Who not being a male will have to shut up now, unless they want to reveal their true colours.

Actually quite a good choice, if he acts with even half the energy he has in Sex Education you're looking at a good old school Doctor Who rather than the self-obsessed depressive Doctor of the post-Capaldi era

I'd never heard of them before. Interested to see how they do.

Nope. I've heard of it as a Netflix (?) show but not seen it.

Yes, it's on Netflix.  Can't recommend it enough.  Laugh out loud funny one minute and heartwrenching the next.   Terrific soundtrack too.

Couldn’t agree more. One of my absolute faves. Everyone I’ve recommended it to has loved it as well.

Just to add - do not worry about the time/place setting.  It's British, but a bit American.   It's now, but a bit 1980s.  Think of it as a parallel universe.

I couldn't give a fuck who they make the new Doctor so long as the scripts/storylines are not preachy, wokey bollocks like 'we must educate the masses about just how bad your ancestors were' etc etc.

I don't think my ancestors ever owned slaves.

It might also help if the plots are not utterly shit too.

As all of the above is bound to be shoe horned in at some point, I'm out.

My advice is to stay well away from those if you're intending to watch SE.  Why spoil it?

Anyway, I thought Eric was adorable from the moment he said "Not my CurlyWurly!" :D

Have they said he'll be playing a gay Doctor?  I hope not.  We've only seen him as Eric and it would be dreadful to typecast him so early.
