Death Impends 8,043 Posted May 26, 2023 Pretty historical death from a US pop history POV too. The last guaranteed QO name to have charted in the 1940s (there are some obscure survivors still about, but if Louise Tobin couldn't QO...), along with, as you said, one of the dwindling early 1950s hitmakers. Then there were three. Leroy Van Dyke is still performing (if sparsely) and seems in decent shape so should be the odds-on favorite to be the last standing, given Ray Anthony is 101 and Tony Bennett is ailing.

Words cannot adequately describe how much I loathe the Eagles and all their solo careers. Many years ago, I was ambivalent about the Eagles, then someone bought me (the album) Hotel California for my the birthday and within a short period of time, I began to loathe the title track, which is all one ever hears on the radio* or by covers bands these days. I'm still ambivalent about most of their output. Anyway, take it easy! *see also Lynyrd Skynyrd's Sweet Home Alabama.

His drinking was part of the reason he baled after they'd toured Hotel California to death basically everyone said he was a really nice guy but that gentle nature needed periodic bouts of binge drinking to keep him courageous enough to cope with the alpha male hothouse of The Eagles once they were a major force in the music industry. One of his mates took legal action to control some of Randy's affairs after becoming concerned that his second wife kept him drunk on vodka so's she could take advantage of the incoming cash etc. Her death, though, was a truly bizarre incident, she'd called cops when his drunken behaviour scared her, the cops left and in putting the house back in order she accidentally shot herself placing a rifle back in its cabinet. Despite the obvious question over that moment there was CCTV in the house making it clear Randy was elsewhere and had nothing to do with it. Oh aye, and he could play a bit - the final minute of this being a case in point:
