Just think too: there is some totally obnoxious teenage girl out there right now, born circa 1999-2000, who is going to become famous as "the last surviving person born in the twentieth century" in 100 years' time. Think of that when you see the horrible spoilt brats on your train to work in the morning.

The old Italian Catholic lady dies the day before Easter. Book wins with Emma Morano, once the proper English obit shows up.

Haven't had a drink since 1st of the month, I'm fucking parched! Currently got two books on the go - The Road To Wigan Pier by George Orwell and When You Dead You Dead by Guy Martin.

That's a shame. I was only reading about him last week, as he shows up in Jeremy Hutchinson's biography due to the Romans in Britain trial.

Okay, moving this conversation forward, to recap the stats, we now have only two people alive who were verified to be born in the 19th century (1900) and who were drawing breath at the same time as Queen Vic. These are: Violet Brown (10 March 1900) Nabi Tajima (4 August 1900) Of these, only Violet was one of Queen Vic's subjects, making her the last Victorian. As of today, she is exactly 100 days younger than Emma Morano was when the latter died, making her the 6th verified oldest person ever (Emma was the 5th). After these two clear out, we are on to the Edwardians!

I always felt that there was something wrong with that quote, hints being that you misspellt Leia's name as Laia, and that – according to the quote – Debbie specified that her mental health problem would continue to be with her in "2017" (as if that year had been in any way special for her). OTOH, the fact that she had been likely to get a role in the new SW movie was not suspicious at all – she presumably already had a contract for it when she died.

You know I really hate it when the world's oldest person dies because I have to deal with dumb Facebook comments under the obituaries. There are two types: 1) People claiming the recently deceased person wasn't the oldest. Under Emma's obituary, people wrote stuff like "there's a guy in Africa who's 145" - sure there is, buddy. There was also a guy who made like five posts about his grandma in Guatemala who is apparently 123. Yeah, ok... 2) People who can't do basic fucking math. Obviously, the obituary stated that Emma was 117 years old, and that she was the last survivor of the 1800s. You have no idea how many people commented some dumb shit like "but 2017-117=1900 so how can she be the last survivor of the 1800s"? Because she was turning 118 this November...

To pick up on an older point, its a sobering thought to realise we're not that far off haing modern young celebrities where we can go and check what Deathlist forum posts were made on the day of their birth. (There''s footballers born 2000/2001 now, so, only a few years to go...)

Article here on Bobby Doerr, the oldest living MLB player and Hall of Famer, who turned 99 a little over a week ago. Now spends 20 hours a day sleeping and has been receiving hospice care for over a year, so I'm guessing the Doerr closes before he sees his hundredth.

Furries would probably see the name "Anna Raccoon" and assume she's one of theirs.

Not sure if I'm posting in the wrong thread or not, but I'm suprised this hasn't been posted yet honestly. Emma Morano, last person left born in the 1800s and oldest living person at the time of her death (I think I worded that wrong) has died aged 117. She was born in 1899. Now the oldest living person is Jamaican Violet Brown aged 117 but born March 10th 1900. EDIT: just realised now that there's a world oldest thread. god I'm dumb... http://www.vcoazzurratv.it/notizie/prima-pagina/4683-morta-emma-morano-aveva-117-anni-e-137-giorni-4

Cheers, Book! It took 117 years to Emma Morano to die, less than one day to you to win this deadpool.

She's now gotten proper obits as mentioned in the world's oldest thread Well done to Book

I see the scary score PB and console myself that Strathspey were 0-2 down with five minutes to go against lowly Deverondale. Fort could yet cling on to a lofty second bottom despite a goal difference that'd shame any self-respecting club. Edit - let's make that a 0-3 defeat for Strathspey. GO FORT!

Good to see you about, OoO. Hope you're keeping well. Yeah, her being a schoolkid in 1951 blows the 1921 date out of the water! Nice to see Jane getting a number of posts on here when she died though, in comparison with the radio silence from the BBC on the matter.

Just looked it up because I hadn't heard of it. According to Wikipedia: "There is an association between endometriosis and certain types of cancers, notably some types of ovarian cancer,[17][18] non-Hodgkin's lymphoma and brain cancer.[19] Endometriosis is unrelated to endometrial cancer"...

In no way do we pretend to be the best death list, the most successful death list or the definitive word in death lists. It's just our death list and this is how we do it. Success is measured against how we did it in previous years and for ease of comparison we try to do it the same way each year. i.e. we meet in the pub, argue a lot and then the Grim Reaper goes home and mis-types up the results I'm happy with that format anyway. Viva the Death List - long may it prosper.
