Sad news, this one. Edward Shames (wiki), dead at 99. As you stated, he was the last living officer of Easy Company ("Band of Brothers"). PFC Bradford Freeman (b. 1924) is now the last surviving member.

Fascinating. Bill Abernethy, Britain's last professional pearl fisherman, dies at 96: https://www.thecourier.co.uk/fp/obituaries/2769999/perthshires-bill-abernethy-who-found-scotlands-largest-freshwater-pearl-dies-aged-96/ and gets a Times Obit too: https://www.thetimes.co.uk/article/bill-abernethy-obituary-06j0p29cr Pearls found by him were incorporated into jewellery worn by the Royal Family. The Abernethy Pearl is named after him and was the subject of a disputed ownership some years back. Freshwater pearl fishing in Britain was outlawed in 1998. Hardly a glamorous occupation, here's some footage from 1961 showing Bill at work:

Welcome to this fine competition to predict the frontpage of this site: The DeathList Prediction Game 2022! But what is it all about? It's not that hard: What do you think the official DeathList 2022 will look like? Which celebrities will be chosen by the Committee in which order? Please tell us by picking 50 celebrities listing them from No.1 to No. 50. This is the scoring system: +10 points for the exact position +5 points if the person is on the DL 2022 but 1, 2, 3, 4 or 5 positions away from the original position +4 points if the person is on the DL 2022 but 6, 7, 8, 9 or 10 positions away from the original position +3 points for every newcomer who also entered the DL 2022 +2 points for every returnee who entered the DL again +1 point if the person is on the DL 2022 but more than 10 positions away from the original position 0 points for unique picks -3 points for every pick who is not listed at the DL 2022 Please name 3 extra names/subs in order of priority. Just in case that the replacement is taken, please tell me in which (any) place the sub should be placed. The other places automatically move up or down and close the gap if necessary. The player with the most points will win the DL Prediction Game. But even after this announcement, which will take place on New Year's Day or maybe a little later*, the action is not over because it is exciting and interesting to see, who will win a litte side kick game at the end of 2022: Were you smarter than the Committee? Did you have more hits? Would „your“ list have won? This side kick game will not be included in the DL Hall of Fame. It's just for fun. *Since I'm not at home for New Year's Eve and will probably come back late on New Year's Day, the announcement of the result will be delayed a little, maybe on January 2nd, no later than January 3rd. Hopefully this will also prevent calculation errors. I name this for reasons ... Please send me your DL Prediction Top 50 plus 3 subs through PM until the 31th of December 2021 at 22:59 CET (mainland Europe time 21:59 GMT). All entries are welcome if they include 50 different people in a chosen order from No. 1 to No. 50 (and 3 subs). Thanks for joining! Gets a Times death notice, which should pave way for an obit, either in The Times or in Guardian Other Lives maybe?

There are now less than 20 remaining players from the 1954 World Cup. A bit of research has found Marcel Mauron, thought to be the last Swiss survivor, died in 1998. (I've updated Wikipedia). Looks like Park Jae-Seung died in 2015, so he was the last Korean survivor. Alfredo Torres of Mexico IS still going, but only just - at 90 years of age, he is 'delicate'. https://thenewstrace.com/pistache-torres-legend-of-atlas-left-the-hospital-after-being-reported-as-delicate/193766/

May I replace Antony Sher with Jane Rossington please.

Wow. This is over quite quickly. Thank you to all for the congratulations. I feared this may be coming from the tone of the RSC statement they originally made. I was torn between Frank Field and Anthony Sher but I logged on during a comfort break in a meeting I was in an saw Frank had already been taken. Anthony Sher is a more me pick anyway I saw him play Macbeth in Stratford several years ago. Very sad but I will take the long-awaited win. By casual players do you mean people who play diligently but are crap?

But in good news - there's a recent interview with Manuel Munoz from the 1950 World Cup - where he confirms team-mate Andre Prieto is also still alive. Munoz is a fair shout of the 4 remaining to be the last standing. https://www.latercera.com/el-deportivo/noticia/manuel-colo-colo-munoz-hubiera-sido-una-verguenza-llevar-mi-apodo-a-la-b/HITUEIBYSFA2FIQRS4CBRVRIQ4/

I respectfully disagree - if the theme is extremely tall people, then all members of the team should be extremely tall (maybe if Dinklage is extremely tall for someone with dwarfism, I'd let that pass), otherwise could my extremely tall theme team have 18 extremely tall people and Dinklage and Warwick Davis as two joke names? Where's the line drawn?

We are on double figures!!! Horst Eckel, German football player and world champion of 1954, has died at age 89. He was the last surviving player from the 1954 World Cup final and the entire German World Cup squad. https://www.spiegel.de/sport/fussball/letzter-fussball-weltmeister-von-1954-horst-eckel-ist-tot-a-67813e51-d68d-4106-a839-defb4da99c13

There’s a good thread running on the Crossroads fan site on Facebook about actors still alive and some telling comments. Jane Rossington (Jill) is in very poor health aged 78. David Lawton (Chef Mr Booth) is 96 and still going strong. He’s losing his sight and hearing by all accounts but still living at home and supported by his friends.

I'm actually a bit troubled by how many Basildonians are on here. I could understand the Scots with the dreich, and generally being dour, but we are becoming a majority. That can't be good, surely?
