5 pointsGlynis Johns, the stupendous South African-born British actress, dancer and singer who is the oldest living Academy Award-nominee in any acting category, is 99 today. Mariano Ozores, the especially successful Spanish film director and screenwriter, a fundamental personality in Spanish cinema, who was born into a family of performers, is 96 today. His brothers, José Luis, the most beloved comedian actor of the 1950s, and Antonio were actors. Although critically despised, Ozores directed almost a hundred films, the most popular Spanish comical films of all time and the biggest box-office hits of the era. The dynasty continues with the actresses Adriana and Emma Ozores, his nieces.

3 pointsOne of the most powerful women of Bavaria, Barbara Stamm, has died aged 77: https://www.br.de/nachrichten/bayern/csu-politikerin-barbara-stamm-gestorben,TJ6O2Ti Stamm was child educator by profession, when she was elected to the Würzburg city council for the Bavarian Conservative party CSU in the 1970s. She stood also for election as Lord Mayor of Würzburg in 1990, but did not win. Four years later, she was appointed Minister of Social Affairs and Health in Bavaria, she resigned in 2001 following the BSE-crisis. Her last significant post in politics was as president of the state parliament from 2008 to 2018. She had to give it up after she lost her seat in parliament following the 2018 election. Shortly before that, Stamm served as acting Minister-president together with Ilse Aigner for two days from May 14th to 16th 2018, after the resignation of Horst Seehofer and before the election of Markus Söder.

2 pointsA rare all-women batch for this past month of HPDPing. Only markb4 had Marsha Hunt on his (black)list to the score of 56 points (40 base + 16 bonus). This almost slipped through the cracks, but it turns out Queen Elizabeth II died a month back. I was able to find a snippet mentioning her death in a Corriere della Sera article, so the points are safe. A trio of teams take reign: 40 points for Famous6Eva, 25 for Pedro67, and a second sub hit worth 50 points for DevonDeathTrip. Another second sub is marked in this update with maryportfuncity seeing 50 points from classicist Joyce Reynolds going from epigraphs to epitaphs. The death of Native American activist and Brando stand-in Sacheen Littlefeather sees two birds of a feather flock together: 40 points for Salmon Mousse and 30 for John Key. Lastly, points on the way for An Fear Beag who mines a unique hit with Loretta Lynn. The unique Squares pick is worth 33 points in all (15 base + 18 bonus). The latest scoreboard sees the top three unchanged but a growing bottleneck beneath with Salmon Mousse and maryportfuncity joining in: 1. Book 360 2. Banana 300.81 3. gcreptile 293.81 4. Salmon Mousse 251 5. msc 250 6. drol 249 7. maryportfuncity 245 8. Perhaps 223 9. CaptainChorizo 222 10. markb4 220.99 11. Pedro67 212 12. DevonDeathTrip 208 13. theoldlady 163.82 14. 1 pointFound out German photographer Perry Kretz died off the radar back in 2020 https://www.stern.de/kultur/perry-kretz--der-stern-fotograf-stirbt-mit-87-jahren-9529658.html. Kretz worked for the German magazine Stern and worked for over 4 decades, he is perhaps most known for his involvement in the Vietnam War. Kretz is also one of several people credited with saving the life of Kim Phuc, better known as the Napalm Girl.

1 pointI recall Trump's father suffered from Alzheimer's. His mother was also in poor health most of her life. He's obese, had a rough covid (worse than told to the public) and is rumored to suffer from coronary artery disease. Biden's health history includes two aneurysms and other health problems in the 80s, gallbladder removal in 2003, skin cancer in the past and a-fib. And at this point I agree, they're both in mild cognitive decline GWB has a history of alcoholism and both he and Obama have used cocaine, I recall they've both said they have. Bush has also had some heart problems and had coronary stenting in 2013.

1 pointYeah whereas if Gooseberry felt a nuke enema coming on we'd all be hitting the cellars (we don't have).

1 pointYou felt the Queen had pancreatic cancer, she ended up dying of old age a couple of years later. You felt that the next GE is likely to see a Tory majority of 10, and, granted, it hasn’t happened yet, but within the week three separate polls have put Labour more than 30 points ahead, another three more than 20 points ahead. You felt that Putin was gonna nuke the world to kingdom come months ago, and I can’t remember that happening either. I, therefore, am massively reassured by this feeling of yours today.
-
1 pointMy view is I'd be a lot more worried if he didn't keep bringing up the nukes. It sounds like a cornered bully threatening folk with that karate training they totally have and you'll be sorry. Those who have to talk up what a bad ass they are usually aren't. Those who talk up how much sex they get usually aren't getting any. Those who talk up nukes time and again have no intention of using them. And if I'm wrong, me, Clorox and Willz live so near to the nukes, none of us would notice.

1 pointWell, for once a reliable scoring. I wish we would have given more points to Lars Vogt.

1 pointThis isn't a rant, but just a idea that I had that some of the more curmudgeonly users will think is quite idiotic but I definitely think that will spread love and positivity around. Basically, next year of course we should keep the DeathList going because it's a classic website and a way to get my morbid fascination out. But we should also consider creating the LifeList, a list of the 50 celebrities most likely to survive the year, with only 25 being reused from the previous year. The criteria for inclusion would be that they got mentioned in at least one article in a major British media source the previous year. In each entry, there would be a short blurb mentioning what transferable healthy habits they have that any individual person could use to increase their own lifespan. If someone on the LifeList does pass away, there will be significant reflection on what went wrong and how you can learn from what happened to them. So in short, this would be an opportunity to increase the committee's (whose name will change to the Live and Let Die Committee to acknowledge the new endeavor) success rate, will allow the visitors the opportunity to empower themselves by changing their lives, and will introduce inspirational celebrities who we can all learn something from. I personally think it's a no-brainer. Plus maybe the Derby people will be inspired to create the Derby Life Pool out of this initiative so everyday people can also talk about celebrities who have motivated them in their exercise and health improvement journey.

1 pointI've never been a huge fan of his Hollywood blockbusters, but there's one movie that really hit me personally and emotionally when I watched it as a young guy in the mid-nineties: Die Konsequenz (The Consequence) (1977). The original version of the film was censored due to its perceived incendiary content (homosexuality, two men planning to live together, a kiss between them) in the first television broadcast on ARD and regional affiliate Bayerischer Rundfunk refused to relay the transmission signal. The film was very well received by the critics and received several awards, but once again conveyed the image that gay life cannot be happy, that society is not ready for it and that outside pressure is difficult to bear. That in turn made me very sad and I am grateful to have grown up in different times.
