We came second literally 2 years ago and it took a Russian madman invading his neighbour to deny us. It's a nonsense we can't win it, we just don't send good enough songs as a rule.

There are lots of words to describe Linehan. A fair few of which are anatomical, so let's pick the most appropriate one, the one that we all have in common, whether you're a man, a woman, an enby or anything in between, whether you're trans, not trans or just have gammon-infuriating pronouns. Linehan is an arsehole. Thread complete.

This strikes me as a great idea for a thread and one that'll surely bring disparate political sides together in an intelligent and cordial atmosphere. Can't wait to read it.

To address the title, 3/4 of them. Hint: not the first one. Transphobia is just simply being a pain in the arse for the sake of being a pain in the arse, as the statistics around the topic are showing over the years - and Linehan's constant bitching and moaning on the subject makes him all the more arsehole-y. He's up there with J.K. Rowling as someone who shot their career in the foot by being, as TQR said, an arsehole - and then had the bollocks to decry something that seems basic. "Cancel culture" isn't what happened here: it's the consequence of your own actions. Piss on your Cheerios and they're going to taste like piss.

I could be wrong but I think the UK still holds the record for second place. Don't know how we are doing on the last place stakes though. I guess a lot of people don't give a fuck about a lot of things. Like me and thrash metal or which celebrity is having a sprog. It's a fun annual event, free to disregard or have a look at the choons and make your own mind up. It's a bit of fun in a dirty world.

Dave Brock talking to the Telegraph, has newly diagnosed heart condition and has to keep the marijuana in check because of "chestiness" - some suggestion that the next 11 date tour depends on his next angiogram (I've already got a ticket for New Day where they're scheduled to headline Saturday) - he's 83 in August, three days after headlining New Day

Was idly working away this afternoon to the strains of the first David Gilmour solo album, incl.this, which I hadn't heard in ages:

She may not even have any cancer now. If she's had an IBD of some sort and they removed part of the bowel, then found cancer cells in it, it may have been confined to that section. This happened to my mother after having that op to remove a blockage. Unfortunately the cancer found was a blood cancer and it had already migrated elsewhere.

Big Six. As usual in the order from last to first. Last: Italy. By no means the worst song, but I have two issues. Do not put a singer who looks like a heroin addict streetwalker to front it. And they have gone all out with musical tropes designed to appeal to the Eastern European countries. Why not pick a song that represents your culture? 5th - Sweden. They seem like nice boys. But it is such a late 80s throwback it rankled a lot with me. Not quite enough. 4th - Spain. Probably too understated and definitely an early 80s throwback I could have seen myself jigging to at my school dance. However, it does have join-in-ability, and if you have your audience onside.... 3rd - UK. It's not good enough, simply not. Olly Alexander's journey to trying to become the next Jamiroquai fails again. Why this? Some of his early stuff was great. It's mediocre at best, and that will not get the votes. 2nd - France. This was close to being my top of this group. It's so French I almost cracked open a bottle of Beaujolais and sat down with cheese and crackers. It has meaning, it has soul, it has, oh I don't know, that je ne sais quoi!!! In another time and another place to different beats this could have been done by anyone from Piaf to Aznavour. 1st - Germany. It's of it's time. In the mould of Sheeran and Capaldi with a husk to the voice, you can feel this guy's anguish littering the stage, but it's by no means a dirge. All the best to you, young fellow, you deserve a high spot in the rankings. After all this, I'm struggling to pick one favourite above all for me personally. Any number of songs I really do like. I know that's a cop out, but I couldn't pick a certain top ten. Nothing made me cry, that I can tell you - bleed from the ears, certainly, but not cry.

Clearly done just to make the others seem less conspicuous, like that would actually work. Makes me wonder why he couldn't wait for the birthday honours for all of these, though, unless Rishi doesn't think he'll still be in office come June, when those announcements are made. Makes you think...

He nearly died of COVID in 2020 and looked extremely frail last April: https://youtu.be/rZGxgUFTPdU?t=811 He wasn't gonna make 90. Should have been on the list IMO. (Which I'm allowed to say given I argued for him to be picked and he's on my shadow list. )

Regarding recent discussions on what (or who) exactly is a 'nonce', according to someone on Xwitter it stands for "Not on normal courtyard exercise". Which is as convoluted (and inaccurate) a backronym as "chav" standing for "council house and violent/ce"

Don't speak too soon, I believe the tories will get another majority at the next election, Starmer is too boring/wooden/out of touch with working class Britain to be a PM, too woke and indecisive too, just Ed Miliband with a bit more grey matter Boundary changes, ID cards, giving expats the vote, tax cuts, culture wars, will all combine to give Tories a majority, plus Labour losing the muslim vote too Starmer won't be PM after next election imho

Interesting, only just found this thread & I remember a week back finding out Sally Oppenheim, who used to be the shadow secretary of state for prices and consumer protection back in late 70s is Turning 96 in July! If I knew she was still about could've been a decent deathlist candidate.
