4 pointsForgive me for asking for help for a charity I support. Kabul Small Animal Rescue is an animal shelter and veterinary clinic in Kabul. It's run by a heroic American woman called Charlotte Maxwell-Jones. The account in Our Story very much downplays the hell that Charlotte went through during and after the NATO withdrawal from Afghanistan. They are desperately overcrowded - as you can imagine, it's impossible to rehome many of their cats and dogs locally - and they have organised an airlift to the USA at the beginning of June to send 200 dogs and 100 cats to new homes or shelters in the USA. They are still a long way short of raising the funds for this. All Paws Airlift Please, if you can spare anything, even if it's only the price of a cup of coffee - it all adds up. Donate here And share to anywhere and anyone you know that might prompt a few donations. Charlotte is very active on social media and regularly posts updates on animals and new arrivals.

4 pointsNadhim Zahawi, former chancellor (but then, which Tory isn't the former chancellor?) - standing down at the next election: https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-politics-68982016 Sitting on a 20,000 majority in Stratford-on-Avon having scooped 60% of the votes in 2019, his seat is one of those the Lib Dems are fancying with a combi or Tory collapse and tactical voting by way of a pile on to oust them. So, we might just have had a Portillo moment there in other circumstances.

3 pointsLt. Gruber may have been a hapless member of an army of occupation, but he was still far more competent and likeable than Hancock.

3 pointsSo, before I'll be gone for a week, have an update. The biggest name in this update, especially in terms of who many players picked him, was Labour politician Frank Field. Because he survived so long, he might not have been a favourite DDP pick, but he definitely was someone for your top 50 lists. Another name, as mentioned above, was american actor Terry Carter, mostly remembered for his Battlestar Galactica appearance. Coincidentally, I now realize that I watched him about a month ago in blaxploitation classic Foxy Brown as Pam Grier's sidekick. TorvaMessor gets another fascinating unique hit. Next hit, as I can recall by memory, is cancer awareness raiser Kris Hallenga. Yes, her cancer made her famous, but she eclipsed the narrow definition of cancer celebrity with tons of TV appearances, her own blog in The Sun, and the charity she founded. When the British overlords hand out MBEs and OBEs, I can be sure in accepting that the person has had a "wider impact on society". And the DDP committee thinks the same. Two players picked her, Cpt. Chorizo and me, making her my joker. Fourth hit in this update is Welsh football legend Terry Medwin. A player in the 1958 World Cup, he also won a few english trophies with Tottenham. He was a unique hit for Yorkshire Banker. Next one is prominent author Paul Auster, a hit for three players. He had quite the distinguished career that only missed out on the Nobel Prize. But the highlights stretch from the New York Trilogy in the mid 80s to monumental 4 3 2 1 in 2017. Another dead author, and another hit, is British crime writer CJ Sansom. A somewhat bigger deadpooling name two years ago, he was now a unique hit for Toast, congratulations! That seems to conclude the update. Kris Hallenga pushes the two teams she was on to the top. And while I am at 1st now, Cpt. Chorizo still has an unused joker in Rob Burrow. Edit: I now realize that msc and Cpt. Chorizo also have a non-obit in Amy Ettinger. She has received a Washington Post obit but that doesn't count here. I need a QO for her in the ABC pool, but it doesn't seem to be happening. Rank Team Score 1 gcreptile 776 2 Cpt. 2 pointsA very big apology to everyone as I messed up badly. Heck, they were both born in 1934, only the actress has two N's, (Bonne) while Pat's wife has two O's (Boone) and I didn't see it that well. I wrote to the Glamor Girls to change it as they may have been confused. She is still alive

1 pointI think the issue for Labour is any time a seat goes from Tory to Labour, it further cements the narrative for the general election, so even if there was an appetite to say no, they can't lose the publicity and narrative. From Elphicke's perspective, it is blatant opportunism. If she's reached the conclusions she says she has, her defection should have seen her back Reform not Labour.

1 pointTo be fair he's done 3 things that usually attract the kind who will do it for life (race car driver, pilot and business owner), so with that in mind it is understandable why he would want to keep going.

1 pointAccording to a post on the Family Search ancestry site, Goldsmith died off-radar 2022. His aviation website say he's living. I'd be surprised if he died without any notice, but I guess its possible. There is a Facebook post wishing him a happy 98th as well from the airport. I'll do a full and thorough search tonight but in the meantime: @Gisooo anything on accurint? Paul Goldsmith was born on 2 October 1925, in Parkersburg, Wood, West Virginia, United States as the son of Edward Goldsmith and Maysel Geraldine Henderson. He had at least 1 son with Helen. He lived in Zanesville, Muskingum, Ohio, United States in 1930 and Columbus, Franklin, Ohio, United States in 1940. He died in 2022, in Griffith, Calumet Township, Lake, Indiana, United States, at the age of 97, and was buried in Chapel Lawn Memorial Gardens, Schererville, Lake, Indiana, United States.
