5 pointsSimilar age as Julian Sands. Perhaps in your sixties your mind writes cheques your body can’t quite cash. I’m starting to feel it myself. Could have been a fall or even a heart attack like Robin Cook. I’ll explain what a ‘cheque’ is some other time.

4 pointsI’m happy to be corrected on this but I think this year is the first year there has been no fatalities at the TT since 1982.

3 pointsMaybe says everything about the terrain in that area that one of the police officers at the scene had to be stretchered away with a leg injury. https://x.com/davidhbrown/status/1799728501110780050?s=61&t=hkSjmZZYj4UaY8qO8XYzFA

3 pointsBanana opens the round with Bangladeshi actress Rista Laboni Shimana. We've been a little short on those subcontinent names this year, haven't we? She was discovered in a casting show in 2006 and had been a steady figure in TV shows, commercials, modeling, and the like. A nasty brain hemorrhage unfortunately ended her life at only 39. In other news, wannamaker's joker Dr. Mazeika Sullivan already died in May, but it was only revealed on the 4th of this month. According to the rules then, wannamaker is "Out of luck", and has to continue without those joker points. But then, even if he had died a day later, there's no obit coming up. There's the legacy obit that doesn't count: https://www.legacy.com/us/obituaries/name/dr-sean-mazeika-sullivan-obituary?id=55283305 If nobody else has the strong wish to take over, I will probably host for another year. And I think I have to set the bar for qualification for the academic types a little higher - I might even be doing the players a favour with this... But then wannamaker's first sub would have been Mamie Loverock who is "miraculously recovering". So, it's probably a wash anyway. GuyFromFuture 0-0 wannamaker Banana 4-0 max_bossetti

2 pointsOh I think a few bigger names will fall but if the task is widest defeat for a sitting MP then the former Scottish justice minister is a top candidate IMO! I thought Bridgen was standing for Reform but he's just an independent. Even Frank Field got gubbed as an independent and he ain't no Frank Field.

2 pointsSo it’s one mile to do the boring walk from Pedi back to Symi where they are staying. It’s hot but I’m bored with lying on the beach so I’m looking for something a bit more adventurous. What stands out on that top map as something a bit more interesting? It’s the roughly 3 mile walk round the coast to have a look at that island on the right hand side. That’s what I would have done and that’s what he’s done too. And then something’s gone wrong.

2 points@TQR... I can't post my team right now, but 14 Cover Drive — Twilight is a missing option/song since yesterday.

2 pointsI hope you're joking. The idea that two completely ideologically opposed superpowers engaged in a phantom space race that resulted in humans stepping on another world for the first time and neither took the opportunity to definitively prove their rivals are a fraud is frankly laughable. The space race was a logical evolution of the rocket technology pioneered by von Braun and others during World War 2 (guessing that was probably faked too...). Is the ISS also fake? Are the current tests of the Starliner and the Falcon Super Heavy also fake? Again, an evolution of what came before. Surely a conspiracy nut like Elon would be shouting from the rooftops if it turned out we'd never been to the moon the first time around? I swear there's only 2 reasons you lot make claims like this: either you're doing it for shits and giggles (most likely) or you have some warped idea that by continuously denying the existence of space travel and the shape of the earth, someone's going to invite you into a rocket to see space for yourself. Nobody can be this dense.

2 pointsIt's both amazing and horrible that society lets lobotomites access both electronics and the internet.

1 pointIt is really amazing that Jimmy can still carry out a conversation, something Chomsky is no longer able to accomplish. For this reason, it feels like Chomsky is closer to death's door than Carter.

1 pointThese polls are starting to worry me. Are they going to put people off tactical voting, thinking it's such a foregone conclusion that they don't need to?

1 pointThe wife would have said if this was the case by now. There's total panic about him. My outlandish theory is it's for some documentary he's doing, he's very method. But, alas, I suspect the reality is much more boring and, sadly, more tragic.
-
1 pointAbsolutely. To the point that on the 40th anniversary my Mum was annoyed that the Russians weren't represented. "But they weren't involved in the Normandy landings," I pointed out. "But they were our allies!" she protested. "They should have been invited".
