5 pointsCenotaph time, and his equerry laid a wreath on his behalf. Assumed this meant another non-attendance but then the camera cut to him standing unaided in full military dress uniform next to Tim Laurence on a balcony. Looked far better than he has recently, but at 90-odd, one bad chest infection or a fall could finish him off. But remarkably, doesn't look in immediate danger anymore.

4 pointsWhen it comes to Actors I agree there is no need to face palm people that may not know someone. Yes he is pretty popular here in the U.S but I understand someone from the U.K not knowing him. I find the same thing for me all the time. Someone can be very popular in the U.K and I never heard of them. But a plus I feel for myself is that this site gives me an opportunity to read about people I may never have known about, and sometimes it is fun to find about new interesting people around the world.

2 pointsIn this case I would expect most people to have seen the crying meme. I've never watched Dawsons Creek or anything that JvdB has been in, but I am very familiar with that image. He was also mentioned in the Hospitalised thread recently. No! The facility to express exasperation is very much needed here. It isn't always aimed at the poster, but the subject of the post.

1 pointInterestingly enough, he shares the exact same birthday as his friend Quincy Jones, whom he celebrates it with usually. So a very serendipitous article to be posted when Quincy died.

1 pointBiz Markie died on this day 3 years ago, aged 57. - Markie's real name was Marcel Hall. His stage name arose during the late 1970s when he took the name of a member of the L Brothers hip-hop group called Busy Bee, and started calling himself 'Bizzy Bee Markie' before abbreviating it. - Markie performed at nightclubs and college campuses, and in 1988 would briefly appear in the background of the music video for Rob Base's "It Takes Two". In 1989, Markie was catapulted into stardom with his song "Just a Friend": The song peaked at number 9 on the Billboard Hot 100. - Markie was sued by Gilbert O'Sullivan in 1991 for his song "Alone Again", who claimed it used an unauthorized sample of "Alone Again (Naturally)". The lawsuit ended up causing artists to make sure the original artist is okay with using their work as sampling: Throughout the decade, Markie often collaborated with artists such as Will Smith and the Beastie Boys. - Markie would begin to have acting roles in the 2000s with appearances in Men in Black II and Wild n' Out, and had a recurring segment on Nick Jr.'s Yo Gabba Gabba! called "Biz's Beat of the Day": He would also voice act, which included cartoons such as Cartoon Network's Mad (as a rapping Bilbo Baggins), Adventure Time (as Snorlock, a giant beatboxing slug Finn and Jake need to help), and SpongeBob SquarePants (as Kenny the Cat in the episode with the same name). - Markie suffered from diabetes in his later years, with death rumors arising two weeks before it actually occurred.

1 pointHenry II, Holy Roman Emperor died on this day 1000 years ago, aged 51. - Henry was the son of duke Henry II of Bavaria, and succeeded his father as the duke following his death in 995. - In 1002, Holy Roman Emperor Otto III died childless, creating a succession crisis. Henry attempted to gain the crown by getting the nobles' support, but after failing to, had himself crowned by the archbishop of Mainz. Some of his rivals, such as Hermann II of Swabia, would continue to politically contest him afterwards, but Henry would consolidate power by the end of 1003. - Henry would lead an invasion of Italy to oust king Arduin of Ivrea, and also led multiple wars against Poland. - Henry died after ruling Germany for 22 years due to an unspecified UTI. He had taken an oath of celibacy, and was the last Holy Roman Emperor of the Ottonian dynasty (Conrad II of the Salian dynasty was elected afterwards).

1 pointBuddy Hackett died on this day 21 years ago, aged 78. - Hackett's real name was Leonard Hacker. During his teenage years, he would perform stand-up comedy under the name "Butch Hacker", taking his stage name following WWII. - Hackett's first film was a 1950 short about bowling techniques, where he would comedically perform deliberately errant bowls. The producer for the Three Stooges offered for him to join them after seeing it, but Hackett declined as he wanted to develop his solo career. - Hackett would have successes on TV starring as the titular character in the 1956 sitcom Stanley, and would soon appear in films such as It's a Mad, Mad, Mad, Mad World and The Music Man: - Hackett would take a break from acting in the 1970s to pursue poetry, culminating in the book The Naked Mind of Buddy Hackett. He would see a comeback in the late '80s by starring in Scrooged as Ebenezer Scrooge, and voicing Scuttle in Disney's The Little Mermaid: - Hackett had longtime heart disease and refused surgery, and his death was hastened by diabetes and a stroke he suffered shortly before he died.
