Dead Pop Stars

Never knew this, then

BBC had asked the Four Tops to do Top of the Pops (Loco in Acapulco being a chart hit late in 1988). had they not done the show they'd have perished on the plane that hit Lockerbie.

So that's John Lydon and the Four Tops that could have perished on that flight then? Instead it was a bloke from Cockney Rebel. What was it, a specially chartered pop star plane?

I suppose this might be the correct thread to post this.

Yukihiro Takahashi of Yellow Magic Orchestra has died.

It’s the exact correct thread.  Thanks for placing it here.

It was Paul Jeffreys - from Cockney Rebel, Be-Bop Deluxe, The Electric Eels and one or two others: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Paul_Jeffreys

Between this and Odjick, is this going to be the year of the old DDP names being cleared out? Watch out for passing snowmobiles, Ryan Buell!

Can confirm the DDP got completely bored of him.

At least if Scott Thorson somehow dies this year, 10 of you picked him. I joked he was dying on the DDP News Ticker in the final days of the year, which given it seemingly inspired people to pick him, almost makes me feel bad. Almost.

Quite surprising someone with a life limiting condition for years didn’t get one single team to pick him.

He was an extreme over-exaggerator. He was definitely ill but never really as ill as he claimed (until now)

May have been overplayed in the mid-00s "hey look I discovered some obscure Europop, how wacky" era, but undeniably a great, great song.

Matt Berry and Emma Noble covered Doris’s equally ‘groovy’ Beatmaker for his Toast in Tinseltown. I should give the album a listen when my kitschometer goes down a bit.

Alan Darby, sometime guitarist and lead singer with British band Fashion, reportedly dead:

During his tenure, they reached #69 in the UK charts in February 1984 with Eye Talk and promoted the single on Razzmatazz:

That would've been a great gay pornstar name.

Even more so if they were a bottom.

never heard of him even with this obit.  Another miss for Gris Gris, despite the fact he was unknowable.

FTR that’s two of four (?) Yardbird guitarists.  Jimmy and Eric better watch their backs.

Not sure if this is Singles Chart, Old Folkies or Dead Pop Stars fodder but...

78 year old Strawb Dave Cousins (two big hits though he didn't write their biggest) was too ill to attend an honourary degree ceremony on Friday. He has - frankly - looked very rough in a few candid recent pictures that have shown up on social media.

mpfc, you seem troubled and confused; let me try to help.
If a person had a pop hit single you are to place the obit in the Pop thread.

If a person had a country hit single you are to place the obit in the Country thread.

If a person had a jazz hit single you are to place the obit in the Jazz   (Didn’t Wake Up) thread.

If a person had a heavy metal hit single you are to place the obit in the Heavy Metal (Stairway/Highway) thread.

If a person had a classical hit single you are to place the obit in the classical (Minimalists) thread.

If a person had a folk hit single you are to place the obit in the Folk thread.

If a person had a prog rock hit single you are to place the obit in either of the Prog (Close to the End/Next Piper) threads.

If a person had a punk/new wave hit single you are to place the obit in the Punk/Wavers thread.

Its all very, very easy, and I canna imagine why you would ever post a musical obit in the Singles Chart thread, which really serves no purpose, as I have shown.

If it's so easy, why are you advising people to post jazz musicians in the Blues thread (Didn't Wake Up This Morning) rather than in Death By Jazz?
