time 8,581 Posted April 4, 2022 Is this the Dot Cotton thread? I was an intermittent EE viewer, but what got me started watching regularly was Charlie Cotton's funeral clashing with Rickaaaay & Sam's wedding.

ladyfiona 2,570 Posted April 4, 2022 I have stopped watching Eastenders reguarly now but what I do remember is that June filmed one whole episode in one scene I believe many years ago. Very talented actress. RIP.

When Mike Reid died suddenly in 2007 they waited until a year later in 2008 to kill of his character Frank Butcher after consultation with his family and being sensitive to their feelings. I guess it will depend what Junes family say but I could imagine it being similar situation were it takes the best part of a year roughly to kill the character off. Yeah, but, re read their post that I replied to. He said, quote, 'So they will kill off Dot Cotton now, I believe'. He/She BELIEVES??? What, like they aren't quite sure that the Beeb will? Blimey, they could still be rolling out her skeleton, fag ( nowt to do with sex, you perv ) sticking out of her skeletal gob while somebody throws their voice to make it look like she is saying ' Oh, er, I say' etc etc. This will be out of desperation by the BBC to get the viewing figures off of the floor that they currently lay upon. Next it will be 'Pete Beal' has risen from the grave, I believe.
MrWonderful 480 Posted April 5, 2022 The floodgates have opened, as this is the third death on my top 50 list in the past week. This was certainly a sensible pick by the committee, and one I couldn't ignore as well. RIP.
Bibliogryphon 9,565 Posted April 5, 2022 I thought June was fantastic as Dot Cotton and probably much better than the soap deserved. The Dot and Ethel episode is still a highlight from the early days. However she was brilliantly cast as Nanny Slagg in the BBC adaptation of Gormanghast where she played the character with indulgence, fragility but also cunning determination being one of the few that saw through Steerpike. If you haven't seen it, it is worth chasing down not only for June but John Sessions, Christopher Lee, Fiona Shaw and Spike Milligan's final role
