Darts and speedway commentator Nigel Pearson dead at 52. Sky had promoted him to take over some of Dave Clark's jobs on the arrers so must have been something sudden.

Didn't actually think Lynam looked that bad - aged, yes, but not particularly ill. Hell, compared to Gazza he looked positively youthful.

Des Lynam in the Royal Box at Wimbledon.

Looked like he needed a haircut and was chewing a wasp, but ok otherwise. :P

LMAO darts ‘commentator’ that’s up there with bowling commentators.  Both start every sentence ‘looks like they hit _____’.

Who would have believed at the start of the year that Eddie Butler would go before Nigel Starmer-Smith?

Very sad to hear this. He had an incredible timbre to his voice. What was a BBC sporting review montage if not narrated by Butler?

Those will never be the same again.

There's a piece in the latest 442, marking 24 years since Euro 96, a sitdown interview with John Motson and Barry Davies about their career/rivalry. Davies seems mentally in great form, but these photos make him look a lot older than 82....

Very sad news. Oddly I did wonder a few weeks ago if he was ill as I saw posts mentioning how he quietly left TalkSport without fuss just before that article in 2020 was published.

Dickie then Motty, my childhood sports viewing has all but disappeared. Only Barry Davies left.
