Most Significant Death Of Each Month

Recommended Posts

I had no idea who Terry Jones was (or a Monty Python for that matter, still unsure wtf it is) in fact I thought he was a woman before I googled him. Not a lot of people under 30 know who they are. And yes, I am in the UK, but I’m not closed minded or ignorant enough to completely write him off as a nobody just because I hadn’t heard of him. Like a lot of people on here did with Kobe.

Fame is often subjective and depends what you were exposed to when growing up and your interests, you can debate until you’re blue in the face about who’s more significant, but it’s a complete waste of energy.

Fame and significance are not necessarily equivalent.

As for not having heard of Terry Jones or Monty Python, presumably you've never seen the film Life Of Brian?   Treat in store then!

I find that incredible.

At 30 I had heard of Flanagan and Allen,  Tommy Trinder, Jimmy Hanley,  Harry Lauder, Marie Lloyd and a shit ton of other famous British entertainers, many long dead before I entered the world.

That doesn't make me super clever, just more aware.

Do 30 year olds really live in a fucking bubble?

God help us.

Long ago when I was 30, I  had heard of all of the above.

(And when I haven't, I just google the fuckers...)

They are in fact totally dissimilar.

Significance is subjective and personal.

Fame is measurable and impersonal.

I can prove a person was or wasn’t famous.  Not true of significance.

Qasem Soleimani hasn't been mentioned. His death was arguably more significant than that of Terry Jones, who was much loved but retired and known to be on his way out. The only thing is that Soleimani's best known for dying.

You can't really.

You can prove that a person was not famous to, say, America, but that does not mean that they were not famous elsewhere.

Kim il Sum a Luvin, the star of ' Let our Glorious Leader Conquer the World' may well be famous in North Korea but, outside of Asia, we would not have a clue who they were, if you get my drift.

This whole thread is a bit bullshit really.

It's all subjective twaddle.

PS: If this makes no fucking sense it is because I am on the Bacardi.:D

I'm 22, and I've known who Python and Terry Jones are since at least my adolesence. I am pretty sure the vast majority of under 30s in the UK could tell you who they are.

It is a Britain centric list, but this site is British anyway. Later I will express my point of view with a list of supergeezers.

Can't believe Kobe Bryant was still this year. 2020 has been one hell of a ride.

Bernard is an institution. All that is good about British comedy.

Kobe Bryant is a brand of wallpaper adhesive I think. :P

Derek Fowlds - I am a really big fan of Yes Prime Minister and Kobe is not well known around here

Kirk is a good actor but Caroline died young and very controversial

Peter Sutcliffe is a household name unfortunately

Barbara Windsor is an absolute sweetheart

How can you even justify saying that some media whore was more important than one of the greatest actors of the 20th century. And fuck George Floyd
