Uber-centrist to the extent he makes someone as blandly "well let's not be too hasty" Third Way as me want to join Shining Path.

Wouldn't call him a centrist, more like centre-left. Labour Party member from 15 until Corbyn came in.

I actually think that his impersonations on Spitting Image (Boris, Trump, Starmer) are decent. Sadly its the material on the Spitting Image revival that lets it down.

I'm going to say anybody who is that unfunny and as unaccomplished at impressionism should not be as mildly famous as he is.

He's managed to unmaster his talents so much, he'd barely get a spot on This Morning.

IMO of course.

Hmm, thinking about Phyllis Diller earlier got me to thinking about those Dean Martin Celebrity Roasts. Can't be many folk still around from them, I thought, as the big names were folk like John Wayne and Sinatra and co.

Well, most of the people have died, true, but there's still 99 "roasters" still with us today. Some better known than others, but here's an updated list of those from them still around...

  • Suzanne Somers (b. 1946)
  •

A fair few theme teams in there.

A note to update this post upon the death of Miss Somers.

Recent photo of Shecky Greene, Barbutti, Nelson Sardelli and Jimmie Walker, taken 30th or 31st of July at "a celebration of what would've been Pat Cooper's 94th birthday":

Shecky is 97, has used drugs and alcohol for most of his life, sarcoma of the ribs, cancer, fall in his 90s, bipolar and depression, yet he looks better than nearly all of those others in that room.

Shecky Greene has recently had a fall (from the 5th of Nov)

Left wing comedian and all round hero Mark Steel has throat cancer

Steel's partner Cally Beaton has a podcast, and interviewed Richard Herring the other week. While they were discussing Herring's testicular cancer, she off-handedly said "obviously my  partner has a much more serious cancer than yours". Possible sign Steel's further along than we'd been led to believe?

Thought he was still dating Shappi Khorsandi. Shows how much I keep up to date with gossip.

How ironic that he should die in the same week as Terry Venables, the model for his Des Frankly character in Lenin of the Rovers, of whom I quoted of on Sunday..

"The man they're now calling El Dead." :rip:

Edit: Seems like he died way back in July!

This article says otherwise: https://beyondthejoke.co.uk/content/14205/tony-allen-died-dead

Apparently he died today but held a wake for himself a few months ago. That joker.

DDP pick to round off the year if a Qobit in time. Shecky Greene’s death also muddled up quite a few of next year’s shadow lists, if not 2024 DDP teams.

I was concerned because I did not find room for Shecky Greene on the 2024 immortals class, so I was going to give him a honorable mention.

That problem has been solved now.

Yes because random seemingly regional comedian that most haven't heard of is on the same level as 'weeks off 100 American icon' Betty White and 'on his death bed former pope' Benedict.

This means Mel Brooks is the last living actor from History of the World, Part I born before the 40s. There was a host of them, but most died in their 80s/90s in the last decade.
