Grief is a strange thing. Imagine getting through his entire Formula One career with the worst injury being a broken leg, seeing him retire in 2006 and getting the rest of your life to enjoy time together, then watching him return for another 3 years and emerge unscathed again, breathing a sigh of relief only for him to smash his head on a rock barely 12 months later. His children were only teenagers when it happened, neurological damage/recovery is notoriously difficult to predict, how ever dire the circumstances seem, especially with the money and medical facilities and expertise he had at his disposal. I really don't see what is being gained 10 years on, but I suppose once the decision had been taken to keep him alive, how do you then make a decision to switch him off if you don't need to from a financial position?

I would hope they had these conversations while he was still racing, and decided to keep him alive. It's not unheard of for drivers to end up in a similar position.

Not unheard of, but it's an interesting question. Is it something you make preparations for, or is it something you never talk about because if you did you'd never get in the car in the first place? Acceptance of the risk is part of racing, even more so in Schumacher's day. And you never think it's going to happen to you. (20 years between Senna and Bianchi of course, covering the vast majority of Schumi's career). But certainly you'd think they'd be more likely to have had a conversation about something like this than many other sportspeople.

Daytona seems to have a lot of these sorts of deadly accidents. I'm not sure why...

He is just sitting there at the table like something out of Weekend at Bernie’s, the idea that he is having a steak and a glass of wine with Corrina and Mick is pure fantasy, if there was any good news about his health it would have been released by now from the family

Insofar as someone can probably prop him up to sit at a dinner table, that's probably true. But I doubt from what we've heard over the years and what I've been told that he is in any way doing anything under his own power.

I'm still not convinced they don't just prop him up in bed with a tray on his lap and feed him through a spoon.

Not being funny but toddlers can sit at the dinner table. They still need a Tommee Tippee bowl, a bib and some help.

Is it possible the voice recognition software misheard Herbert when he said Schumi could "shit" at the table?

Scenes if the last ten years have just been leading up to one big wedding reception speech prank.

Wow, that would be a sensation. But I expect that there will be a tent that hides him.

From the article: The family are in the process of hiring a security team that will ensure no photographs of the 55-year-old leak out.

A sensation is an understatement of all understatements.

He will just be sat in a wheelchair staring into space, I doubt he even knows he has a daughter or what her name is, this is just symbolic nothing more

Messaged a friend of mine who would have some idea, and he said this is essentially the best case scenario.

Yeah I think it is just a case of Gina Marie would like her father to be there so the whole family together, I don’t think he has the awareness or mental capacity to understand anything of the occasion sadly, 100% a vegetable sadly, if he wasn’t then the family would have gone public with the news

Sadly he probably doesn't even know what his own name is. Just awful.

He won't be on show.

The wedding due to take place at a mansion owned by the family in Spain.

The property was purchased by the Schumachers in 2017 from Real Madrid president Florentino Perez.

It is already equipped with the specialist equipment needed to take care of Schumacher.

The last 10 years regarding Schumacher have shown even all the money in the world can't buy miracles. If it was me I'd take death over what it sounds like Schumacher's gone through since the accident.

If he has multiple homes and he's moved between them regularly then the lengths his family must have gone through to hide him from any outdoor exposure must defy logic. Does he have to be shipped around in a crate?

An adapted van of some sort is likely depending on the distance...
