Latest Tory gaffe dump: they’ve spent £150million on 50 million masks that are totally unusable, from an offshore banker with no history of supplying medical equipment.

Captain Tom’s going to have to drag his sorry arse around his garden another 500 times or so to pay for this bollocks.

Quick 16 question quiz that tells you which government in the world most closely resembles your views:

I got Denmark.

Out of curiosity, I ran the quiz again answering with the direct opposite of my views and got Iran.

I got Uruguay. Although at least one of the questions in there is pretty poorly worded imo.

Just a quick interlude while we decide which country we should each fuck off to, looks like the govt is preparing to announce a results fiasco based U-Turn.

Though, as Boris went to Eton, they’ll probably upgrade that to an A-Turn.

The Vote Leave team that now runs Number 10 spent years dismissing complex policy problems as “Project Fear” or coming up with complete fallacies as solutions to put to the public (remember GATT24, for example?).

And recent times really show up how bogus they are. Whenever they’re faced with a policy problem that urgently needs solving, such as this results debacle or various aspects of the pandemic, they completely go to mush. And the relevant ministers disappear for several days.

Oh but wait, Gavin Williamson has surfaced just now. He’s essentially passing the blame to OFQUAL and the buck to Universities. And would you believe it, the BBC is spinning it as the government ‘listening’. This isn’t listening. This is them shitting themselves inside out because even their allies are occasionally having moments of clarity and calling them out on how horrendously they handle absolutely fucking everything.

So, very quick summary of the governments of the countries mentioned so far:

Denmark: Socialist, but without the negative Corbynesque side effects. Led by Mette Frederiksen, her government is basically a big coalition bloc of left and centre left parties and seems to be doing well.

Canada: Led by Justin Trudeau. Everyone loves him when he’s not blacking up. Centre-left, big on inclusivity, has brought some very progressive reforms to the country and is very popular.

Uruguay: Used to be Social-Democratic, but newly elected leader Luis Lacalle Pou is a Conservative Nationalist. Was a case in the last election of right versus far right. He doesn’t sound too dangerous.

Japan: Shinzō Abe has been the PM and president of the Lib Dems for what feels like a century. Lib Dems over there have Conservative ideologies, and his ‘Abenomics’ fiscal strategy obsesses over growth. Much like most things in Japan, it just seems to work without complaint.

Saudi Arabia: King Salman and Crown Prince MBS run this brutal, authoritarian country which appears to be anti-most things. The Crown Prince has made some efforts to modernise their attitudes, in that women can now get in the drivers seat of a car without being stoned to death.

Thailand: Unitary state led by a military junta, namely General Officer Prayut Chan-o-cha. They promise reforms to reduce tensions, clean up corruption and distribute state funding equitably. Top army brass is extremely wealthy (funny that) and state censorship is rife. Quite reminiscent of Animal Farm.

Poland: Andrzej Duda has been President for a party called PiS for 5 years. Piss describe themselves as Conservative Nationalists and Christian Democrats. Very anti-LGBT. Friendly with Donald Trump, not so friendly with his own judicial system.

Iceland: The Prime Minister, Katrín Jakobsdóttir, leads with a coalition between her Left-Greens, the Progressives and the Independents. So now what you have is a government with Left, Centre and Right influences which, apart from her wanting to withdraw from NATO and keep away from the EU, is stable and works well.

Czech Republic: Miloš Zeman was their first President to be elected rather than selected. Apparently a Social Democrat, but proven to be very populist and divisive. Likes war and hates LGBT advocacy. His Prime Minister Andrej Babiš is a businessman who’s no stranger to fraud, intimidation of opponents and blaming all problems on immigrants.

I got Canada, presumably it means yer a forgettable big bastard who is mostly harmless.

Uruguay was fairly progressive democratic socialist for most of this century which is probably what it means for folk. Mujica and nearly Drop 40 but got cured Vasquez focused mostly on improving education and literacy and health care, rather than the usual S American thing of coups and military parades. It'll never catch on...

Sir Ed Davey has been elected leader of the Lib Dems. So glad that privately educated men in their 50s are getting some long-awaited representation at the forefront of UK politics.

Still, at least Tory Remainers now have someone to vote for.

Beaten candidate  - Layla Moran - is my local MP and  a nice caring, hard-working sort according to friend of mine who is an active LibDem. Earlier this year however, she came out as pan sexual and embarked on a relationship with a woman who had just been sacked as a press officer by the LibDems for misusing members' personal data. Don't care personally who she sleeps with but even the wokest of LibDems must have wondered what kind of a field day the Tory Press would have at a GE over a lack of political judgement regarding her sleeping partner. Davey is the safe but boring choice. Hopefully Moran tries again next time.

This article by Jonathan Lis is the best political explanation of Boris Johnson ever. Very much worth a read.
