Ideas And Possibilities For 2018

Recommended Posts

Folk said he was in poor health when he went on the list. The obits said he'd been in ill health for a while. There was clearly a case for inclusion, they just picked the wrong year. Close to Elaine Stritch and her stomach cancer, in a way.

But to the deathlist he was just some geezer.

How I would write next years list based on where we are today:

1)Johnny Hallyday

2)Errol Christie

3)Gord Downie

5)Paul Van Zandvliet

6)Leah Bracknell

7)Kirk Douglas

8)George H W Bush

9)Tony Booth

10)King Michael of Romania

11)Manuel Noriega

12)Hugh Hefner

13)Charlotte Rae

14)Nobby Stiles

15)Charles Manson

16)Peter Sallis

17)Denis Norden

18)John Noakes

19)Jill Gascoine

20)Clive James

21)Ray Wilson

22)Gerd Muller

23)Martin Peters

24)Olivia de Havilland

25)Vera Lynn

26)Roger Bannister

27)Jacques Chirac

28)Helmut Kohl

29)Norman Lloyd

30)Carol Channing

31)James Hewitt

32)Shane MacGowan

33)Big Van Vader

34)Herman Wouk

35)Lord Carrington

36)Linda Nolan

37)Javier Perez de Cuellar

38)Sheila Mercier

39)Pierre Cardin

40)Henry Kissenger

41)Val Kilmer

42)Douglas Hurd

43)Terry Jones

44)Prunella Scales

45)Daniella Westbrook

46)Paul Gascoigne

47)Sir Peter Hall

48)Kenny Sansom

49)Jake LaMotta

50)Prine Philip Duke of Edinburgh

I feel like a lot of these names don't feel deathlisty. Zandvliet, Bannister, Lloyd, and  Big Van Vader don't feel like the type the committee would pick. Others aren't that ill, and some, such as Gasciogne and Samson wouldn't really be good picks. Oh, and I'm assuming Leah Bracknell would be #4 :P

Crikey Bannister definitely is.He is a household name in Britain. The 4 minute mile is referenced a lot on TV and popular culture in general.Oh Billy Graham was 4 just left him out.

Bannister certainly would, one of the biggest names in British 20th Century sport.

Bannister was even a draft pick on the 2006 DeathList! However he got booted out after Alfredo Di Stefano had a heart attack.

(I'm aware of this because the DL 2006 draft had a thread on the super secret mod board - but alas, not many other DL years had them, so I'm afraid I can't provide many other historical nuggets in this vein :P)

I saw that, back on the day we all got onto the mod forum by accident for 30 mins. Some folk posted joke threads, I went right to try and find the historical Deathlist threads.

Uhm, allegedly, if that were such a thing I'd do.

This year feels like a bit of a transition/ build up to another flood of deaths next year. Nearly half way through and honestly its been a very slow. Even dead certs like the king of Romania and Leah bracknell look like they have a good chance of surviving until next year. I never chose Leah though as I just thought  less than 14 months from diagnosis to death was too soon. Especially with her determined attitude. Apart from Tara Palmer Tompkinson has there really be a surprising or shocking death?

Tim Piggott-Smith  Graham Taylor and Ugo Ehiogu are the only shocks that spring to mind.

Chuck Berry somewhat, considering he was very active until his demise, although he was 90.

Olivia Newton John allegedly becoming increasingly bedbound.

Perhaps worth considering for 2018.

She's performing in my area soon. I know people who are seeing her. If she can still perform with sciatica she's probably fine.

Rather than an update on Ms N-J's health, I think that story was mainly an excuse for the Mail to post pictures of her daughter's tits.

Tony Bennett?  Other than a "mild flu" (which, if that is understated would kill him in 2017) I see no reason for him to be on the list for 2018.   He is very active.
