For example, Alfred Wainwright who wrote the definitive guide to the Lake District peaks was largely motivated to do so because he was stuck in a loveless marriage and back in those days didn't see divorce as a serious option. He spent Easter to late autumn climbing, photographing and noting the peaks and various routes up them and then the winter turning these materials into ink drawings and very personal descriptions of the nature of the fells.
