Ideas and Possibilities for 2021

I’m sure already on many people’s long lists and radar, but Senator Dianne Feinstein has announced she will not be seeking to serve as Chair or ranking Member on the Senate Judiciary Committee in this Congress.

More than likely she doesn’t have the support of her colleagues given her handling of the Barrett hearings, but at age 87 perhaps one to keep in mind if there is any other reasoning for her not seeking the position.

Report from the New Yorker suggests that Dinosaur Dianne has been suffering cognitive decline for years. "Struggles to remember briefings just after they take place".

People who bizarrely don't have Wikipedia entries that are getting on in years and would be a guaranteed QO:

Patrick Anthony, long-time Anglia TV continuity announcer (beloved by generations of kids for hosting the "Birthday Club" where you could get a shoutout from the host) and one of the original Ready Steady Cook chefs. Must be well into his eighties by now.

Boxing+Day+1988.jpg

Max Crabtree, brother of Big Daddy and Britain's leading wrestling promoter throughout the 70s and 80s. Born in March 1933 and has kept a very, very low profile since the mid-90s, doesn't even turn up to British wrestler reunions (possibly because he still owes most of them money).

Patrick Anthony always cooked in a shirt and tie if I recall. The Anton Du Beke of cooking. He also only ever appeared with a very camp bald chef whose name I can't remember. I could never work out if they were an item.

Some brilliant suggestions here, I don’t think anyone could argue with the first seven and Ono, Poitier, Gorbachev, Mondale and Captain Moore. However, Michael Schumacher may still have another 5 to 10 years and does anyone have any recent information about Robert Duvall’s current health?

Disagree, Schumacher has been in a coma for years. I don't see it last long.

Schumacher isn’t allowed to go anywhere. I love this man. I will cry my eyes out when he dies.

Far too old for the DPs (off this site too) that I enter.

I need some recommendations that are under 60, ideally well under.

That puppet is called BC.

When it worked with the woman who also presented Birthday Club, he used to get a tad saucy.

Not many under 40s  up here don't know what it is.

Yes, I know, absolutely fascinating!!

I've been lurking around the DL for years, this time I'll finally have a list of my own for the first time. It goes:

Akihito 87

Yoko Ono 87

Bob Dole 97

Alex Katz 93

Tom Lehrer 92

Amanda Lear 81

Herb Alpert 85

Horst Eckel 88

Raúl Castro 89

Frank Gehry 91

Jiang Zemin 94

Donald Trump 74

Robert Crumb 77

Phil Spector 81

Ali Chamenei 81

Donald Knuth 82

Philip Glass 83

Jane Goodall 86

George Soros 90

Tippi Hedren 90

Noam Chomsky 92

James Watson 92

Benedikt XVI 93

Jimmy Carter 96

Yuri Norštein 79

Richard Serra 81

Julie Andrews 85

Tenzin Gyatso 85

John Williams 88

Arnulf Rainer 91

Milan Kundera 91

Prince Philip 99

Julian Assange 49

Shirley Bassey 83

Ralph Steadman 84

Giorgio Armani 86

Wayne Thiebaud 100

Brigitte Bardot 86

Gerhard Richter 88

Daniel Ellsberg 89

Henry Kissinger 97

Françoise Gilot 99

Pierre Soulages 101

Michael Schumacher 51

Álvaro Siza Vieira 87

Giorgio Napolitano 95

Philippe de Gaulle 99

Abdelaziz Bouteflika 83

Salman ibn Abd al-Aziz 85

Frederik Willem de Klerk 84

Reserve:

Mikhail Gorbachëv 89

Jean-Luc Godard 90

Gina Lollobrigida 94

Of course it's completely inconsistent. I left off some big names (QE2, David Attenborough) whose health seems perfectly fine, on the other hand included plenty of folks on grounds of old age alone. Feel it's safer to roll the dice though than to overthink it, in this case.

Good list with a few exceptions. Don’t see Trump or Assange going anytime soon. Also, Bassey and Gehry are still very active for their age.
