After much soul searching I have withdrawn from University.Very sad but it is the right decision.

I don't think it's practical to ignore all the other picks because if 3 or 4 of your team die every month then you have to go looking for new blood. Inevitably the most likely new candidates are those survivors on people's teams from the previous month, whether you identify them independently or by a trawl through the master list. Here's my no-longer-required line-up which 'stole' Leo Cahill from GCR but I got him on a free transfer as GCR went out. I did consider just going for the survivors from GCR team for April plus 3 of my own but felt this would not feel like a victory for me if I won that way. Felt that a thread for legendary big name movie actor was warranted and due. A prolific actor and director who has been influential in the movie industry especially in his later years with his founding of the innovative Sundance Film festival. I felt that his status and history as one of Hollywood's favourite leading men justified an individual thread.He's definitely one from his generation of actors who's a household name.The fact he's turned 80 in the last year, has in recent years been the subject of gossip and speculation over his health and his recent announcement that he plans to retire from acting are taken together good ground's for him now finally having his own thread. He's certainly a big enough name for us not to want to be caught unawares on here if he were too pass away suddenly. So here it is a thread for one of the most accomplished and popular actors in the past fifty years -Robert Redford.

That reminds me of how I spent the last two weeks of April checking Indonesian Twitter and Indonesian news websites about the condition of my unique pick Julia Perez, many times a day. On April 21st, I decided to post about her poor condition on this thread just because I thought there was no way she'd survive the month. But of course, she made a bit of a recovery, and lived into May. I lost the Cup round, and now she's a unique for someone else - DDT.

I think she intended them to be a bit distinct from her other novels, but they're not really much different from the standalone psychological ones.

You haven't read any of the Barbara Vines? You lucky, lucky bastard! They are the best of the lot. The very last one (The Child's Child) isn't a typical Vine, so I would leave that till last. A couple of the later ones I found the explanations a bit obvious, but they were still cracking good reads, and the first ten or so are brilliant.

I enjoyed the early PD James novels, but she developed a dreadfully verbose and turgid style and the books became way too long. And i hate it when the detective's personal life becomes too intrusive. Ruth Rendell just managed to stay on the right side of that with her Wexford novels, but only just. There was usually a topical strand in there that saved it. I much preferred the non Wexford ones though.

I really, really miss her. I haven't been able to find any other author who comes near her for creating ominous dread with such a light and sure touch. Her last few novels weren't up to her best, but still better than most of the dross out there.

I already have two non-obits and some relatively bad picks (Cheyann Clark, Leanne Hock, Gemma Nuttall, Laura Saull). It would take Bracknell, Christie and Downie surviving PLUS Juan Pedro Franco dying and Emma Houlston obiting to give Shameless the victory.

It's up in the air whether there's even going to be a DDP 2018, but if Shameless take the title this year that'll probably be the end regardless for me.

Would have liked to spend more time on it, but all of my research this time around was compiled in Arthur's Pass village using some very shoddy rural wifi as the snows were sweeping in from the West Coast.
