INVERSE DEAD POOL 2019 As always, with the new year comes another opportunity for you all to reckon which DDP darlings have another 365 days left in their tanks. Though the 2018 Inverse Dead Pool had less deaths among its selectables than 2017 (15 compared to 20), there were still three massive scoreboard-scrambling landmines among them in Stephen Hawking, Aretha Franklin, and Stan Lee. By the year's end, machotrouts emerged the least scathed with 17 points. Rules From the list of the 50 most popular DDP picks of 2019, pick a team of 25 names who you think will survive the year. Rank your list in order of least likely to die to least least likely to die. Post your team in this thread. If someone dies and they are listed on your team, then you will receive points according to their position. If your #1 pick dies you'll receive 25 points, whilst if your #25 pick dies you'll receive 1 point. If someone dies and they are not on your list, then you receive no points. In case one of the names available for entry dies before the submission deadline, you are allowed to have one sub. The sub can be anyone from the top 50 or the 51st most popular name, who will be revealed alongside the top 50. The 51st name can not be part of the original 25 if no one dies. In the case of one of your original team dying pre-deadline, the sub goes into 25th place by default, but if the sub was previously the 51st, you are allowed to change the position of the new pick. If the above scenario happens, you are also allowed to name a new sub and I will reveal the 52nd most popular name. Whoever has the lowest score at the end of the year is the winner. NEW: If two or more teams are tied at the end of the year, the tie will first be decided by who has less hits. If they have an equal amount of hits, then whoever among the teams died latest in the year, and thus came closest to being a correct prediction, will decide the winner. If said name was on multiple teams in the tie, whoever had said name lowest will win. If multiple teams had said name in the same position, the second most recently-deceased name will be referred to, and so on, until a winner is found. If, by some alignment of the stars, the tie is of either no hits or of all of the exact same hits in the exact same positions, all teams in the tie share victory. Credit to Toast for inadvertently coming up with a peach of a topic description, and of course, credit to Spade for creating this wonderful game. Credit to Dead Cow for his job as previous host, laying the framework for the Inverse Dead Pool's OP, and the idea for a "dies during entry period" rule. Credit to machotrouts for the suggestion of the latest hits factoring into tiebreakers. So now it's time to tally up the final score for this year. Here is a brief list of who died, and what bonuses they all received: John McCain (drop 40, joker bonus for Book, Cast Away, Chorizo, Cow, DI, FixedBusiness, Heef, msc, Rad, Toast, Torva, Unknown Man) Charles Aznavour Montserrat Caballe Stan Lee (drop 40) Fernando del Paso (unique in DDP and joker’s) Devin Lima (drop 40, joker bonus for FixedBusiness) George Bush Sr (drop 40, world leader, joker bonus for Book and DI) Albert Frere (unique in DDP) Simon Ricketts (drop 40) Additionally, there is some end of the year bonuses. First, I get some excitement because since I was dead last at 18 points, I get 10 extra points to boost up my score a bit. However, I am still dead last in the end. The next two aren't so lucky bonuses. The first bonus is the unlucky 13 bonus, and it's none other than drol who loses 5 points. He retains his position however. The last bonus is for the person with the most hits, and Chorizo won that bonus, making him go down from being 2nd alone to being in a 3 way tie for 2nd alongside DI and msc. As such, I would like to officially confirm that Torva Messor won the pool for 2018 with a grand total of 78 points. Here are the final scores! 1st - Torva Messor - 78 points 2nd= - CaptainChorizo - 68 points 2nd= - Death Impends - 68 points 2nd= - msc - 68 points 5th - Pedro67 - 64 points 6th= - The Dead Cow - 63 points 6th= - RadGuy - 63 points 8th - CastAway - 62 points 9th= - Book - 60 points 9th= - Heef - 60 points 11th - The Unknown Man - 58 12th - Toast - 57 points 13th - drol - 49 points 14th- FixedBusiness - 48 points 15th - Bibliogryphon - 38 points 16th= - Gooseberry Crumble - 29 points 16th= - YoungWilz - 29 points Last place - Joey Russ - 28 points Now it's time for me to enjoy my retirement as host of this pool. I would like to confirm that Clorox Bleachman is planning on taking this over starting in 2019, meaning that this pool will live on for another year. Have a great year everyone.

Okay, you asked for it, so here you go, @msc and others... A collection of recent New Idea covers that help the housewives of Australia keep an eye on that bloody Camilla, who is always up to no good. The Globe, for good measure:

Just realized we now have 3 people from The Mary Tyler Moore Show on the Deathlist this year, lol! If only Cloris Leachman had made the cut too!

I don't doubt it, which is why I picked her as well. Very hard to get a unique pick with potential these days.

Let's climb in the way-back machine, shall we? -------------------- Hi Sir-Creep, I have just approved your account for use; if you can read this that is proof that it works. It seems to me you also registered an account named "Sir Creep". That one was a working account, but is was never used. For that reason I deleted it. I can rename the account you're now using ("Sir-Creep") to "Sir Creep" if you like. regards, Hein ----- Replied: January 9, 2015 OK Awesome! Just trying to get in and get my feet wet (size 12 US). I'll be one of your busy posters. SC ------------------- I'm a man of my word if nothing else. Wasn't sure where to post #10,000. Didn't want it wasted somewhere silly. So I guess this is it! A little anti-climactic but that's ok. Not celebrating the content so much as the effort it took to get here. SC

Damn he was on the long list. Was semi popular pick a couple years ago with bad ticker and bad events in his life. No one did more with less (talent). RIP DD Does this mean I have to hear those Godawful songs the next day or so? Well here, let's get this party started:

As soon as this site's up I'm establishing a steering committee for next year's edition, because we need to come up with a better way of processing entries that doesn't send gamerunners insane. Although of mild note: Tyler Trent was only picked on two teams, and was a joker for both. Gene Okerlund was a unique, and again a joker. So 100% of all deaths so far have been captain hits.

Thanks for the kind messages. There was certainly a good deal of luck involved primarily with avoiding Marieke Vervoort. If I had seen one particular story I would've selected her as my joker with all the others. Being Australian was no disadvantage, the Jessica Falkholt tragedy was front page news in the lead-up to new year's and Vanessa Goodwin was a tap in. Of course it was the selection of SKS as joker which gave me the advantage. At some times during the year I thought this was a master stroke at others a mistake, but come about April it looked like bad news for him. I was saddened by his death, he seemed like he had a lot of good in him. I was also surprised and saddened by the death of Simon Ricketts, his Twitter feed showed that his good humour lasted till the end. I never thought I was much of a chance of winning until Spade posted that he considered Pity Da Foolz favourite assuming Vervoort decided to live (and so it proved). Mrs T is busy bragging to her friends about her husband's achievement and only 95% of it is tongue in cheek. I have entered PDF again for 2019 but while I expect to be vaguely competitive I have included a couple of somewhat left field local picks which will give me a bit of difference to the other contenders. Thanks to Spade for all his hard work during the year (especially the very frequent updates). My mind boggles at how long it must take to keep it all running. Perhaps I should also thank him for not entering DQSP which obviously makes it that much easier to win. Good luck to all for DDP2019. Cheers Dr T
