Former US representative of Oregon, Elizabeth Furse dead of a fall at 84: https://www.oregonlive.com/politics/2021/04/former-oregon-congresswoman-elizabeth-furse-has-died.html She was born in the British colony of Kenya, grew up in South Africa, and married a US citizen. Then she became the first naturalized American to win a seat in Congress. Interesting.

Died without a single interesting, amusing or informative post in his thread, including this one. Dickie O, or rockabilly, he was not - just a boring old man whose sole purpose in life was to provide the 8th hit of AD 2021.

Walter Mondale is hit No. 7 for the DL and also a hit for Bibliogyphon, Dying Probably, Great Uncle Bulgaria, Joey Russ, The Daredevil and TomTomTelekom.

The NYT's endorsement of him in 1984 said that he had "the flair of a trigonometry teacher" or something to that effect, which is quite a thing to say about the guy you're saying should be your country's next leader. It was, of course, more of an anti-endorsement of Reagan than an endorsement for Mondale. I've always thought of him as more or less a fundamentally decent guy, but certainly not suited for running for higher office. He was the kind of person who was better suited for a long career as a legislator than in the executive. Of course, nobody was beating Reagan that year anyway.

Breaking News: Walter Mondale is DEAD at 93 years old! That is now 7 out of 50 gone in the year of 2021! The Death List needs to updated!

Allow me to participate in starting the tsunami of votes for Bob Dole

I guess Walter Mondale gets the distinction of being hit #100 this year. It is a consolation prize for losing 49 states when he ran for President

As of today with Mondale's passing, we're just one hit behind 2020 and we're 8 days in font of 2008. quite impressive considering I wouldn't have guessed we would have been competing with the two strongest lists here. The next key date is 11th of April when 2020 had its 9th death : we have to get 2 deaths by then to equal that.

    My second option...

Seriously no-one had Walter Mondale here......

It'd be a shame to wake 'em at this hour.

Surprising for me that he's gone before both Carter and Dole (his rival VP candidate in 1976).
  16. 1 point
Sticking with Dole (who was also Mondale’s opponent for VP in 1976).

I can't see anything on news sites but this guy seems important enough for John Barrowman to post on his Instagram. Anthony Powell has died aged 85 . He was a costume designer for many West End shows including Anything Goes which John was on. His Wikipedia tells me he has won three Academy Awards for his work. Films he has worked on include two Indiana Jones films, Hook, The Ninth Gate...I could go on.

What about The Queen's next weekly meeting with the Prime Minister. i wonder if she is alone in the room during those, Boris definitely seems the kind of guy to take advantage of a greiving widow and "slip her the biscuit"

The magician and founder of The Magic Castle, Milt Larsen, recently turned 90 years old and they had a virtual bday celebration for him. In the video, there are some older notable stars including Wink Martindale and the Disney songwriter, Richard M. Sherman. https://www.broadwayworld.com/off-broadway/article/VIDEO-Neil-Patrick-Harris-Leonard-Maltin-David-Copperfield-and-More-Take-Part-in-Milt-Larsens-90th-Birthday-Celebration-20210416

I guess it's no surprise that Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh was our No.1 pick by far! 19 out of 24 players put it in the first place and thus also correctly predicted the position on the DL. Also the longest lived Presidential candidate from the two main parties is 1936 Republican candidate Alf Landon (who suffered a landslide defeat similar to Mondale) who lived to be 100. Some way yet for Mondale to go.

John Nance Garner, FDR's first veep, lived to 98.
