7 pointsThanks to all of those running this year's game. After a couple of years in the deathlisting wilderness, I have entered Pity Da Foolz once again. For those interested: Clare Marx (J) George Alagiah Bob Barker Jana Bennett Russell Bishop Gary Burgess Shannen Doherty BIll Hayden Alwen Hughes Olivia Newton-John Linda Nolan Tom Parker Frank Pritchard (a NZ rep rugby league player who was "fighting for his life" with Covid early on New Year's Day Brisbane time-but has since largely recovered so most likely a wasted pick, but good on him ) Carol Raye (English actress who made her name in Australia on Blankety Blanks amongst other things) Vic Seixas Tom Smith Micky Stewart Doddie Weir Tom Weiskopf James Whale I've tried for a few uniques (Pritchard, Raye. Stewart, Seixas, Hughes) and most others will be Drop 40 but I've stumbled tactically by selecting Marx who will be neither as my joker. Good luck to all competitors, administrators and, of course, those selected on all the teams. Too late for poor old Gary Burgess. Cheers Dr_T

4 pointsInstead of just throwing random names on to the thread, perhaps you can explain why you're making that suggestion and who they are, also what they're famous/infamous for. No point in saying they're getting old, that's no excuse.

3 pointsYesterday the 3rd Baron Monk Bretton (wiki), who is 97, broke the record to become the person who has held a peerage for the longest time ever (88 years and 158 days). He used to sit in Parliament… from 1948(!) to 1999.

2 pointsVoted Buzz. Shatner has had too many alien encounters and has benefitted from superior medical treatment.

2 pointsNot at all, but you may have missed the point that the Star is so low-brow it's fairly popular in some high-brow places on the back of it's entertainment value (summat Star journalists are well aware of). I'll confess to buying the shape shifting lizards edition yesterday just to see how they wriggled out of the committment on the headline (skilfully as it goes - by quoting an opinion poll and making it clear what percentage of younger people were more likely persuaded by that shite and how the internet was impacting people's beliefs in some quarters). To be fair, other than the shit wages writing for the Star would be great - read some interesting stuff, knock out about as many words as a long post here, and go home well before anyone on a proper paper was allowed to check out.

2 pointsOther than two goes at calling us "vile" they're actually praising the accuracy and clear about the rules of the top 50 - tbh I'd say they're doing us a favour re generating some traffic.

2 pointsSimon's done a decent bit of homework (I'd say at least 15 minutes' worth), but he does need a thesaurus to help with synonyms for 'vile' - which he's used three times. So it's only a 3/10 from me, sorry Si.

1 pointYeah, it's okay. Miles better than last year, but that was never going to be difficult. Still loads of room for improvement e.g. still a few silly drops and shot in the dark type picks.

1 pointHamish no More. Former Scotland player Hamish K. More has died aged 81. Played 18 first class matches & toured with the MCC in '78-79. He still holds the Scottish record for catches in a match, 7 vs Pakistan, taken in 1971.

1 pointWith undue respect, I never said nor implied there’s anything wrong with being proud of one’s own heritage. But being disappointed that someone isn’t of a certain heritage is another thing altogether. I’ve no idea why I’m clarifying this; you know what I’m saying, but you’ve got form for being deliberately ignorant with this kind of thing and indeed most forms of social injustice. But, to keep you happy, I’ll get back on topic. Andrew is a nonce.
