12 pointsI can't speak for everyone else, but I shall share my own reasoning. As a American. 1. I gave a 'shocked' face, as it doesn't really trigger any other emotion from me. I am just surprised it happened. 2. Don Young was the current Dean of the U.S House. The man has had the same job since the 70's. 3. Young was planning to run for re-election. Previously stating something to effect of, 'He will run till he loses or dies'. 4. This throws Alaskan politics into a whirlwind, and as someone who follows politics closely, it will be interesting. 5. Despite being 88, he reportedly died randomly on an airplane. No health issues that I've been made aware of. 6. As a sitting Congress member, his death would be notable in any given year. In the currently razor-thin divided House, this may have a major impact. Lastly, just because someone is not mentioned on this site....does not mean they don't have significance. Either from a world-wide perspective, national perspective, or even individual perspective. Stop being an ASS for no reason. You cunt.

2 pointsIf you aren`t mentioned on this forum and notable and old it is fair to say the death is unexpected and therefore a shock to some.He died suddenly.Yes 88 is old but someone dying suddenly on a plane of natural causes without warning is pretty unexpected.

2 pointsI thought I'd mentioned this, but it turns out it was in PM instead. So, another great Ron Pember role was in the Bergerac Hallowe'en special Fires in the Fall. Unusually for the gritty cop show, it went full on horror and was actually astonishingly great at it. A boy got killed in a farm fire in the 60s, and twenty years on, the mother of the dead boy is being conned by a charlatan Derek Acorah type. At the same time, the police officer who covered up suspicious facts in the death (ie that it wasn't accidental) is on oxygen, dying, and being stalked by a mysterious figure in black. Jump scares, creepy old houses, arsonist ghosts and Louise Jameson, there's a lot to love in this one. Anyhow, Ron Pember is the aforementioned dodgy ex-cop, and he's very good in the role. As he was in many roles.

1 pointI've only just seen the disagreement over sticking 'Happy Birthday to..' people in threads where Toastie thinks they shouldn't go and, personally, I agree with her. So, as noble as it is for GC to recognise that some people are still alive out there to have birthdays to celebrate, maybe they can all be put in here. This should satisfy all, everybody and nobody in equal measure. Gooseberry, this is your very own place on here. Enjoy.

1 pointComing to this late in the day, I was going to make this point as it didn't seem to have already been made. It's what I know him for too. Him and Trigger stitching up Rodney who eventually loses his position as Del Boy and Grandad try to scam their way to a better council house.

1 pointDutch political correspondent Ron Fresen (62) is terminally ill. He was diagnosed with prostate cancer 15 years ago, recovered, but the cancer returned in november 2018. He has been working with NOS (Dutch Broadcasting Foundation) since 2004 and will leave them in may 2022, he announced this morning. Among things he wants to do is spend time with his grandson for as long as he can. While not a news anchor, he is a well known figure in the news as political correspondent for the last eight years. Really hope he can last a while, he always came across a great guy, informative & funny. https://www.nu.nl/media/6163504/politiek-duider-ron-fresen-62-is-ongeneeslijk-ziek.html
