Her mistake was to take up acting as a profession. Yours was to pick her knowing that. Had she been a quarterback, wide-receiver, second baseman or even another shock jock you'd have rightfully hammered me into the dirt before 2022 ever got started.

Today's driver death of the day featured is Art Cross, who died 17 years ago on this day in 2005. He was best known for being the first Indy 500 "Rookie of the year" back in 1952 having finished 5th that year, he also finished 2nd in the 1953 Indy 500. Cross lived quite a long life compared to a lot of his colleagues, dying at the age of 87.

Picture of Kane Tanaka (from last month?), posted on the twitter account tanakakane0102 by her family today: Apparently she's been in and out of hospital recently with fever ("hospitalised and discharged repeatedly") and isn't currently in good condition but has a good appetite, "eats chocolate and drinks Coca-Cola and Oronamin C".

Kenichi Shinoda, the longtime boss of Japan's Yamaguchi-gumi and a "supreme godfather/kingpin" in the country is still alive at 80. Seems to have been very quiet during recent years. I'm also suprised that Russia's capo dei capi, putin crony Semion Mogilevich is still alive at 75. He's never looked like the picture of health

King James I (of England) and VI (of Scotland) died on this day 397 years ago, aged 58. During his 22-year reign as King of England, the Virginia and Plymouth colonies were founded, and the Gunpowder Plot occurred. He also sponsored the translation of the Bible into English- this is where the "King James Bible" originates from.

I've moaned about this before. Acting is a profession where the sex of the individual is relevant. If you are a casting director looking to cast a female role, you will (with very few exceptions) be looking for a female actor. Or a male actor for a male role. It is useful to have words which distinguish between the two, and it seems foolish in the extreme to discard them for the sake of "inclusivity" (if that's the word).
