3 pointsExcluding those considered as claimants; 1. Lucile Randon, 118. Seemingly doing fine. 2. Tekla Juniewicz, 116. In great condition for someone her age and still able to walk. 3. Maria Branyas Morera, 115. Declined during recent months, judging on how in recent pictures of her she's on a hospital bed. 4. Fusa Tatsumi, 115. Wheelchairbound since her centenarian years, now bedbound and incredibly frail, as R. Young said she was in worse condition on her 115th birthday than Kane Tanaka was around a week before she died. 5. Sofia Rojas, 114. Oldest Columbian ever, wheelchairbound. 6. Bessie Hendricks, 114. Had "no major illnesses" a year or a few ago but looked a bit frail on her 114th. 7. Mila Mangold, 114. Wheelchairbound since atleast 109. 8. Edie Ceccarelli, 114. Physically in pretty good health, but suffers from dementia. 9. Kahuro Furuya, 114. Oldest person ever with a pacemaker. 10. Erna Zahn, 114. wheelchairbound

2 pointsEmperor Moctezuma II died on this day 502 years ago, aged 54. Also known as Montezuma, he became the emperor of the Mexica (Aztec) Empire in 1502 following the death of his uncle, Ahuitzotl. Among the things he did as emperor included conquest into the modern day Mexican states of Guerrero and Oaxaca. In 1516, a civil war began following the death of the ruler of the city-state Texcoco, in which the state was split into three. One of the rulers of these new city-states, Ixtlilxochitl, disliked Moctezuma. In 1518, Moctezuma was alerted of Juan de Grijalva's arrival on the east coast, and began to set up watchtowers for future sightings- the following year, Hernan Cortes and his crew did so, and Moctezuma was informed ASAP. He sent diplomats to meet the Spaniards, and later met Cortes, gifting him an Aztec calendar, and some silver and gold. Six days later, Moctezuma was put under house arrest by the Spanish- this occurred following an attack on a Spanish garrison by a tribute collector. Hostilities by the occupying Spanish army and native civilians exploded in 1520 with the Massacre in the Great Temple. Five weeks after this incident, the Spanish forced Moctezuma to appear on his balcony to order his people to stop fighting. This had the opposite effect- violence immediately erupted, and Moctezuma was stoned to death. Two more emperors came after him, but their reigns were very short. Spain would rule their land for the next 300 years. Today, travelers' diarrhea that affects tourists visiting Mexico is colloquially known as "Montezuma's revenge".

2 pointsThat ones a classic. Dennis Hopper, the king of showing up for a film cameo and outshining everyone, outdone at his own game by Dean Stockwell. Sitcoms are classic for this sort of thing. Rik Mayall's Flashheart in Blackadder. I'm a huge favourite of Richard Easton's one scene wonder in Frasier as the classically trained actor Frasier pisses off into quitting his live radio production in Ham Radio. Mel: [German voice:] Ja, I saw zee Gentleman. Frasier: Stop! [to Mel:] That's wonderful, Mel. But he sounds to me just a bit more Austrian than German. Mel: I've done that accent both on Broadway and the London stage! Frasier: Yes, well perhaps they have different standards than I have. Frasier: Mel - I'm still not entirely happy with the second McAllister sister! She doesn't sound spinsterish enough for me. Mel: I see. You also told me that my gamekeeper sounded too cultured, that my Irishman sounded more Protestant than Catholic, and that my dwarf was too tall! Alas, I can't find that online, so here's Denis Lill's 90 seconds as a toff MP in another Blackadder episode! This thread may fill up when there's been more time to think about ones though.

1 pointSly Stone turns 80 next year. He was one of the biggest up and coming stars in the musical world until his drug addiction got in the way of his career. His excesses surpassed that of even Keith Richards and Ozzy Osbourne.

1 pointI thought the courtroom sketch was quite... abstract. That's quite some shirt the judge is wearing for the occasion and Ghislaine seems to have brought along her Converse trainers. Meanwhile, smog is enveloping the public gallery.

1 pointHere's some kind of an update post, with some opinions. Musharraf: Still not dead, Pakistani media seems to have gone a bit quieter on his health recently. Not such a June/July dead cert he seemed like a few weeks ago... dos Santos: Attempt to take him out of coma failed today according to Portuguese media. On the other hand his daughter claims he's stable and doesn't have cancer. Other inside sources say that he's very ill. 60% sure he'll be dead by the end of the week. Majumdar: Miraculously recovering (but he also never had a tracheotomy despite atleast one source saying that he did, which means he was slightly less ill than I thought) but not out of danger. His NG tube has been taken off, but he's still in ICU and unable to talk. Now communicates by writing. An MRI scan has not been done yet as he's not yet in good enough health, but they think he could have suffered a stroke. His list of diseases is long and even if he's discharged I doubt he'll ever fully recover from this hospitalisation. Gorbachev: I know nothing about his current condition but I doubt he'll see 2023 at this point. He's been ill for ages and had many close calls with death. Singh Yadav: Poster boy for an elderly couch potatoes with swollen limbs, but he isn't ill with any mortal diseases. Will be discharged, but his health will probably start to properly fail soon. Ponce Enrile: Isn't in serious condition, he'll recover again, but after these last two hospitalisations I'm going to bet on him not making it to 100.

1 pointCasilda Benegas died yesterday at 115 according to 110club. First validated Paraguayan-born supercentenarian, oldest person in Argentina ever and the fourth-oldest living person at the time of her death. My guess is, she catched a cold and didn't recover.

1 pointIf it makes you feel any better, MC is blocked because his posts contribute a grand total of naught to this site. Somehow I have allowed your posts to continue, call it an oversight, but you’ve been absent. Regardless, you’re just above MC which isn’t saying a lot, but hopefully it makes your day. SC
