Meanwhile... Now he's king, he's having to avoid controversy, like following advice from the new PM to swerve the next climate change summit and avoid giving a speech about the urgency of it all. Suggesting, probably that Truss's government will trample green targets in their sprint for economic growth. I'm thinking Charles listened, took it in and - in whatever words he'd generate internally - considered Truss will be here for a short time and he'll see her out, and get back to saying summat about what matters to him in due course. https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-63105522

I feel Kissinger is bigger purely because his name is closely associated with significant events in history and thus his name always appears in history books. Carter was a forgettable U.S. president. Our perception of his prominence is perhaps clouded on this site because we’ve been discussing him for years.

Tom Petty died on this day 5 years ago, aged 66. In 1976, Petty formed Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers, which saw success in the late '70s and early '80s with songs such as "Don't Do Me Like That" and "Refugee". Petty also had a solo career, releasing his most successful song, "Free Fallin'", in 1989. The song featured and was co-written by ELO lead singer Jeff Lynne- who sung backing vocals, and reached #7 on the Billboard Hot 100. Petty also had an acting career, appearing in several episodes of It's Garry Shandling's Show, as well as the 1997 Razzie Worst Picture winner The Postman. Petty's most well-known acting role, however, was as the voice of Lucky in King of the Hill starting in 2004. Initially introduced as a guest role, Lucky would eventually become part of the main cast after marrying Hank's niece Luanne. Petty died of an accidental drug overdose two and a half weeks before his 67th birthday.

Indeed. There are a few exceptions (eg Putin), but King Charles is not one of them.

It is oddly interesting: some people you'd forgotten about, some you didn't know were dead, some who seem to contain a whole era in their picture.

George is 9 years old, what's there to like? He may well turn out to be a fine young man but it's a bit soon to be forming an opinion.

I could see him and Rosalynn going pretty soon one after each other. Possibly a lot closer than George and Barbara Bush.

It's almost as if she understands that it has nothing to do with whether people like him or not, and more to do with the fact that you're a deranged human being who belongs at the funny farm in a room with padded walls.
