2 pointsAdolfo Pérez Esquivel, the famed Argentine activist, architect, painter, professor, sculptor and writer who was awarded the 1980 Nobel Peace Prize for his activity for the protection of democracy and human rights for the people of Latin America, is 91 today. In 1977, Adolfo Pérez Esquivel was arrested and imprisoned, without a trial, for 14 months in which he was repeatedly tortured. Jamie Rose, American actress, primarily a television actress, who is probably widely known for her regular role as Vickie Gioberti, one of the young characters in the famous 1980s soap opera "Falcon Crest" from 1981 to 1983, is 63 today. Jamie Rose left "Falcon Crest" after only two seasons due to creative reasons, and she was replaced by Dana Sparks.

2 pointsStephen Hillenburg died on this day 4 years ago, aged 57. Hillenburg was a marine biologist who used a comic he created, called The Intertidal Zone, to educate his students. Among its characters was "Bob the Sponge": In 1987, Hillenburg left his job to pursue a career in animation- Hillenburg would direct many episodes of Rocko's Modern Life during its run from 1993 to 1996. After production on the show ended, Hillenburg pitched his own show to Nickelodeon- originally under the working title of Spongeboy Ahoy!, it got greenlit, and in 1999, premiered on the network as SpongeBob SquarePants. Hillenburg would occasionally provide voices, most notably as Potty, the puppet parrot of Patchy the Pirate, the president of the SpongeBob Fan Club (below). Hillenburg served as the showrunner from SpongeBob's inception until 2004, following the release of The SpongeBob SquarePants Movie (that was intended to be the series finale). Hillenburg would eventually return to the show in 2014, and worked on the story to The SpongeBob Movie: Sponge Out of Water, released in 2015. In March of 2017, Hillenburg announced that he was diagnosed with ALS, and he died after a 20-month battle. SpongeBob's 20th anniversary special ("SpongeBob's Big Birthday Blowout") and the third SpongeBob movie (The SpongeBob Movie: Sponge on the Run) were dedicated in his memory.

1 pointMick Easterby (the oldest trainer who still has a licence - albeit only jointly) was at the final York meeting of the year. Did seem a tad more frail on his feet than some previous years but still looked very alert and capable for a man of his frame & age combination. Didn't snab a picture, was focusing more on the horses on that front, but don't think he's a great proposition for 2023 lists (for all he will obit, and many outside of racing circles wouldn't anticipate that). Mick Channon giving up the licence is somewhat concerning to me. Obviously there's the Sun article hightlighting his Bowel Cancer (or-post Bowel cancer - the current status is left a tad ambiguous at least when I skimmed the piece) but surely he'd have been a golden candidate to introduce a joint licence when the BHA introduced them. By all accounts, his son has been involved for a while and thus this development seems a tad more serious than is, perhaps, being let on. Oliver Sherwood sounds a lot better than last April, just watching his RTV interview after Queens Gamble won the other day. Not a complete longshot for next year but I'd say the interview is strong enough to count him out of Deathrace calculations. Backed a horse of Stella Barclay's at Wolverhampton on Saturday and noticed Alan Berry had given up training (the horse had arrived to her from his yard). Son of the famous Jack Berry so might get an obit at the very periphery of a broadsheet column of some description. Got no evidence to suggest it was illness related (quite frankly, he was a fairly lacklustre trainer - admittedly one that got embroiled in some minor controversy around 2009). In case it isn't something economically related thought I'd flag the name up in case somebody wanted to do some digging.

1 pointAccording to the latest reports Leslie Ash remains in a 'stable' condition hospital after a 'mystery virus' - nothing to do with the 'beating' she got from hubby Lee...oops, sorry, falling out of bed after a bout of boisterous lovemaking and breaking a rib and collapsing a lung (as you do!). How the hell did she hit the bedside table, you would have thought those inflated lips would have bounced her right back in to bed! Could it soon be a case of Leslie Ash's to Ashes?........

1 pointI've trimmed the list a little, dropping those who most likely won't QO, and a few others whose health has improved since the beginning of the year. I've still got three picks who I suspect have all left positions this year due to ill health, but at the moment I don't have any definite proof, and they may have all stood down for other reasons. As far as I'm aware none of these people have been discussed on here this year.
