6 pointsI'm very happy with the winner of this game, I love Vogue , and I agree, it' a dance music classic! I also love Your Woman, a worthy runner-up! The new game will start a little later today.
-
5 pointsA worthy winner. As much as I quite like the quirkiness of Your Woman, Vogue is by the far the timeless classic.

4 points03/05/23 44 Madonna – Vogue +4 00 White town - Your Woman -1 From one Michigander to another, It’s an honour.
-
3 pointsI'm pleasantly surprised by the turnabout overnight, Even though I don't think Madonna/Vogue was the best number 1 of the 90s (that's Aqua/Barbie Girl, obviously), its preferable to White Town/Your Woman. Now, about Lonnie Donegan...

2 pointsLightfoot famously said he'd never heard a cover of one of his songs that he didn't like - which might have been a wry comment on the income the best known songs earned him that way. Early Mornin' Rain was a staple of Elvis' best gigs during the Vegas period. It's on Elvis Now (1972) which is a fairly patchy set of performances of stuff intended to make The King sound like he was in touch. It's something of a standout next to perfunctory stabs at the likes of Hey Jude, and he did it well live. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Elvis_Now

2 points03/05/2023 35 White Town – Your Woman -6 24 Madonna – Vogue +4 I love both of these songs for different reasons. Makes a change from the final 2 80s songs, which I could appreciate academically but which didn't make my heart warm and fuzzy.

2 pointsI agree with you. I’m a PSG and France supporter so I had my share of disappointments this year, but c’est la vie, nothing dramatic. About your last sentence, I’m also annoyed when a article says that someone or some club has beaten an « historical » record of English football, but when you look closer, it’s only in the history of Premier League, so in the last 30 years.

1 pointI doubt it. He was primarily a singer, not an actor. Gina Lollobrigida, Topol and Raquel Welch made more significant contributions to film than he did. That said, there will be a bigger film death this year at some point. There always is.
-
1 pointThat's neat. I would have placed him no. 1 candidate for the BBC end of year round-up, too, but nice to already put him to rest.

1 pointI understand Toast & will make sure, cause there are still plenty of veterans attaining milestones, I used to think there weren't that many vets left, but dang there are still so many not yet ready

1 pointGeorge Murphy died on this day 31 years ago, aged 89. - Murphy's first film role was as Jerry Lane in 1934's Kid Millions. - Murphy soon starred in many musicals in the late '30s and early '40s, such as the Broadway Melody series. - Murphy was the president of the Screen Actors Guild from 1944 to 1946, succeeding James Cagney. - He was awarded an Honorary Academy Award in 1951, having never been nominated for an Oscar. - Murphy retired from acting once he turned 50, and immediately turned to politics- he joined the Republican Party, and organized the entertainment for the Eisenhower campaign. - In 1964, Murphy would be elected as a senator from California by just over 200,000 votes- a 51-48% margin. Shortly before the election, Murphy made a controversial statement regarding Mexican farm laborers in the US- "They are built low to the ground, you see, so it is easier for them to stoop". That led to this song being made: - Murphy would sneak candy into his Senate desk, which he would share with colleagues (despite eating being prohibited in Congress). This has since become a tradition for Republican senators; Murphy bequeathed it to Arizona senator Paul Fannin after leaving office, and it would only be publicly revealed by Washington senator Slade Gorton in 1985. Its current owner is Indiana senator Todd Young, who took it earlier this year (after Pennsylvania senator Pat Toomey's retirement). - Murphy would be diagnosed with throat cancer during his term, and had a part of his larynx removed. - Ronald Reagan got into politics thanks to Murphy- he called him his "John the Baptist". - Murphy lost re-election in 1970 due to his support of the Vietnam War and his cancer scare. He would retire to Florida, where he spent the last 22 years of his life.

1 pointWith Musharraf, Bacharach, Sakamoto and Lawson now down, Shane is still winning but now at 14 votes, Alda maintaining runner-up position but at 11, Cheney 3rd at 9. Of the four dead candidates, Musharraf was the only one who had a vote.

1 pointOn Tuesday night I had a very vivid dream that the Queen died in a fire at Buckingham Palace. I was standing outside and could feel the flames, while rescue workers tried to get in, mind you that may or may not have been a can of petrol I felt in my hand at the same time . Seriously though it was a very real dream and one of those ones you wake up from and then check the news just to see if it's true..
