2 pointsZero Lives of Ryuichi Sakamoto Yes, I still hadn't done this one yet. Japanese composer Ryuichi Sakamoto has died of colon cancer at the age of 71. He will be remembered for his influential electronic music production, his work in the band Yellow Magic Orchestra, his scores for films like The Last Emperor, The Revenant, and Merry Christmas Mr. Lawrence, and that one weirdly hot album cover of him holding a lamp in a bathtub. Probably lucky to have lived for another 45 years after that. Now, excuse me while I bring this quote over from the Ryuichi Sakamoto thread to put all the coffee posts in context, because I wasn't sure what you were all on about until I read it: Well, fortune favours the bold... in games other than the Inverse Dead Pool, which is largely unrewarding for the bold, but thank you @Sir Creep for keeping the game interesting at your own 25-point expense. Unfortunately, coffee enemas are ineffective at treating colon cancer. The biggest leaderboard drop, however, is @msc, whose 14-point hit drops him 41 places after he was among the 11 who didn't bet on Bacharach – which means we have our first distinct top 10 of the year, all on 0 points. But for how long? Until 11 days ago, actually, but I'm catching up. The only other points are the 9-osaurus for @TheSpinosaurus, and 1 for @MariNisia, who actually rises 2 places at Creep and Spino's expense. GAINED TOTAL = 1. LizLemon 0 = 1. CaptainChorizo 0 = 1. 1 pointThanks for the heads up TM. No real need to work out the points- my spreadsheet does that automatically, although I do appreciate the effort!

1 pointWilliam Petty, better known as Lord Shelburne, died on this day 218 years ago, aged 68. - Shelburne was a veteran of the Seven Years' War, seeing combat in France and Germany, and became a colonel. - Shelburne was elected to Parliament in 1760 while still serving. The following year, his father died, and he was elevated to the House of Lords. - Shelburne founded the Boodle's Club in 1762- it is still active, and its members have included William Wilberforce, John Profumo, and Winston Churchill. - Shelburne would serve in several ministerial positions, including the secretary of state for the Southern Department from 1766 to 1768. - In 1768, the town of Shelburne, Massachusetts was named after him. He sent a church bell to show appreciation, but it never arrived. - Shelburne was opposed to fighting the American Revolution, and was critical of Lord North's government. Shelburne called for total withdrawal following the Battle of Saratoga in 1777. - Shelburne was appointed Prime Minister in July of 1782 following the death of Lord Rockingham. His ministry was best known for drafting the peace treaty that would officially end the American Revolution (though combat had largely subsided following General Cornwallis' surrender). - Shelburne was forced out of his position by the opposition parties, and was succeeded by the Duke of Portland (William Cavendish-Bentinck). - Shelburne would be made an honorary foreign member of the American Academy of Arts and Sciences in 1803. - Shelburne was worth £50,000 at the time of his death- this is worth over 5 and a half million pounds in 2023 money.

1 pointKhoi was a Brig. Gen. I'd assume there are some other Generals living. Checking... Ministers/govt: Nguyễn Tiến Hưng (1935) Minister of Economic Development and Planning 1973-1975 Trần Ngọc Ninh (1923) Minister of Education 1966-1967. Alive? Trương Văn Thuấn (1936) Communications and Transport Minister 1966-1967. Nguyễn Hữu Hanh (1923) Bank governor, should be dead. Returned to Vietnam in 2003 to live the rest of his life there. Not to be confused with another guy with a very similar name who was born 1924 and died in 2019. Hoàng Đức Nhã (1942) Minister of Public Affairs and Cheiu Hoi 1973-1975. Nguyen Van Thieu's Press Secretary. Nguyễn Văn Hảo (1942) Apparently a former Deputy Prime Minister. Said to be alive in Vietnam. Military (mostly minor names mentioned on the vietnamese wikipedia as they have Wiki pages for seemingly all SV Generals - some of the Maj/ Lt. Gens likely dead): Lt. Cen Phạm Quốc Thuần (1926-2023) Said to live or have lived in Oregon. Lt. Gen Nguyễn Bảo Trị (1929-2024) Was still attending events a few years ago. Lt. Gen Trần Văn Trung (1926) Was said to be "lying in critical condition in a Paris hospital" in 2012, I doubt he's still alive. Lt. Gen Nguyễn Vĩnh Nghi (1932) Possibly dead? Lt. Gen Mai Hữu Xuân (1916/1917-1988) Involved in the 1963 and 1964 coups. Very much dead (Trần Thiện Khiêm was the last living of those who had a major role in the coups) but nobody seems to know when, all is known he died in the US. Maj. Gen Nguyễn Chấn (1931-2022?) Said to have died in Toronto last year. Maj. Gen Bùi Hữu Nhơn (1928-2022) A Major General with the same name died in the US last year, and I doubt there are many Maj. Gens in the us named Bùi Hữu Nhơn. Maj. Gen Đào Duy Ân (1932) Maj. Gen Lê Ngọc Triển (1927-2019) Online obituaries can be found Maj. Gen Nguyễn Duy Hinh (1929) Maj. Gen Phan Đình Niệm (1931) Maj. Gen Nguyễn Khắc Bình (1931) Most recent news from a few years ago. Police chief for four years before the fall of Saigon. Should be very much alive as youtube has 2022 interviews of him. Brig. Gen Chương Dzềnh Quay (1928) Later lived in France...alive? Brig. Gen Nguyễn Văn Giàu (1932) Brig. Gen Huỳnh Văn Lạc (1927) Brig. Gen Phạm Hữu Nhơn (1928-2016?) Later lived in Haymarket, Virginia. Someone with the same name died in Virginia in 2016, but was marked to have been 90 years old at the time of his death. Brig. Gen Nguyễn Thành Hoàng (1924) Very likely dead. Brig. Gen Phạm Hà Thanh (1926) Director of Military Medical Department for two years before the fall of Saigon. Known to been in exile but returned to Vietnam at some point. Brig. Gen Phan Xuân Nhuận (1916-1992) Died in the US of old age, but not known when. Brig. Gen Vũ Đình Đào (1931-2020) Online obituaries say he died 2020. Brig. Gen Đặng Đình Linh (1929-2010) Online obituaries say he died 2010. Brig. Gen Nguyễn Văn Lượng (1931) Kiem Do (1933) "Deputy Chief of Staff of Operations when Saigon fell in 1975". Lives in the US. Col. Bùi Dzinh (1929-2024) Col. Nguyễn Văn Huy (1938) Said to live in the US Col. Dương Hiếu Nghĩa (1925-2019) Some sources say he died 2019. Major Nguyễn Qúy An (1943) Major Phan Nhật Nam (1943) Lt. Phạm Quang Khiêm (1946) Lt. Nguyễn Văn Cử (c. 1934-2013?) Tried to assasinate Ngô Đình Diệm. According to Vietnamese wiki died in 2013 but haven't looked into him.

1 pointHere's April. The former Chancellor of the Exchequer checks out. Nigel Lawson was no real loss(on), but very much a gain for nantonian2013, who cooks up 63 points (45 base + 18 bonus) with the death of Nigella's dad. Next, the cuckoo crumbles for cinematographer Bill Butler. Rumors that he knew he was about to die because he heard ominous music, but couldn't actually see the Reaper sneaking up, could not be confirmed. Grease is the word for two teams: diego gets 35 points and markb4 gets 15. What? He buried? Only Perhaps saw that pondering the demise of MAD Magazine's Al Jaffee wasn't a stupid question, and brings 25 sub points into his fold. Pedro67 had fashionista Mary Quant on the outskirts of his team, bobbing upwards with 25 sub points. Two teams jump in the line following calypso sensation Harry Belafonte's exit. Mostly a vocalist, there are also instances of him drumming out there, and tbh if you can stand toe-to-toe with Animal on the drums you probably deserve the bonus points. So it's a banana bunch of points for Murdoc with a fruitful 54 in total (30 base + 24 bonus), while ThereWillBeDeaths7 picks up 25 sub points. No competitive heavyweight deaths in the past month means the very summit of the scoreboard is unimpacted, but the meaty totals of some of the aforementioned hits sweep multiple teams past the century mark and into the top ten: 1. 1 pointWin some lose some. It worked for the South Korean footballer dude who was a few months into a PancC diagnosis, but was showing up on a plethora of teams. This makes me 50/50 on Asians in the #1 position. *Not sure that came out right*

1 pointI don't see it as a dilemma. If you like one of the songs enough, it doesn't matter about the other one. I consistently voted for These Are The Days Of Our Lives, ignoring BoRhap which I've never been a fan of.
