Tove Jansson died on this day 22 years ago, aged 86. - Jansson was from an artistic family; her father Viktor was a sculptor and her mother Signe was a graphic designer. Her brother Per became a photographer, and her other brother Lars became a cartoonist, like her. - Jansson first made paintings in her 20s, and her first art exhibition was in 1943 (considering WWII, I doubt attendance was high). - Up to 1953, Jansson was a political cartoonist for Garm magazine- one notable cartoon she made (in 1938) lampooned appeasement by depicting Hitler as a crying baby, and European leaders such as Neville Chamberlain giving him slices of cake representing the land Germany annexed: - Jansson wrote her first children's book when she was 14- it was called Sara and Pelle and Neptune's Children. - Jansson is most famous as the creator of the Moomins- children's books featuring a family of donkey-like trolls. She wrote the first book in the series, The Moomins and the Great Flood, in 1945, with the following book Comet in Moominland establishing most of the main characters. She wrote these from up to 1970- the series remains hugely popular in Finland today, and it has been adapted into TV shows, theatrical plays, video games, and even two theme parks:

@CaptainChorizo... about May... one more... Jeremy Clarke was a hit for @msc: https://www.telegraph.co.uk/obituaries/2023/05/21/jeremy-clarke-obituary-low-life-spectator-magazine/ If Daniel Ellsburg is Daniel Ellsberg... he was a hit for @JoeMoneypenny, too. And Harry Belafonte died on April 25. @The Unknown Man needs a replacement.

IIRC wasn't there an episode of "Hart to Hart" where they entered a rally in Greece?

Has anybody seen that Advert where the two little girls walk into the lounge and proclaim that "Dad, its time" or something as they produce a box of hair dye ( think grecian 2000). What kind of a crock of sh*t is that? Dad is single/widowed/divorced. Dad isnt in a relationship Dad hasnt had his leg over. Dad is a sad twat. Daughters decide that, to remedy the above, he needs to get rid of his grey hairs. Viola!! Dad gets a bird, daughters ( sitting in a single Armchair ) do the old "Palm to Palm" hand slap. Result!! I need not tell you that this advert is American, I certainly dont wish to appear anti American, we have some valued cousins on this forum, however, I dont think anybody could have made this advert outside of the States. Perhaps, to redress the balance, somebody would care to hold up some more British examples of inane, God awful, toe curling advertising.

Sub-250-post members: this is the kind of content you should be bringing to the forum, not "hey Dick Van Dyke is old anyone thought about picking him?" And you're right.

Hits, hits, hits!! Thank you all for mentioning the names above, especially the rarer ones. Especially Gooseberry Crumble and Cpt. Hemlock continue their streak of left-field unique hits. Researching night club owner/criminal figure Ronnie Knight was enjoyable, I remember. Pat Cooper as well... I added him to my longlist and even gave him a "50% chance of dying this year"... missed chance for me I guess, but not for Cpt Hemlock. Glenda Jackson another hit for Gooseberry Crumble, who needs one more hit to share the "most hits of the year" record. Edna Child, unique hit for Joe Moneypenny, was another gem to research. Though I guess, being the oldest olympian of the UK at the time should have put her on more radars (she floated kind of under the surface, hurr hurr). She was not picked for the DDP, but here! There were also the big names Silvio Berlusconi, Ted Kaczynski, Pat Robertson, Gordon McQueen, Teresa Taylor and the like. Frequently picked names. Christy Dignam, also very prominent, but picked here only once, by Sean, who kept the faith, congrats! I thought I had picked Frederic Forrest in everything, but I guess news arrived too late to pick for me in this pool. But three of you score. Winnie Ewing is a unique hit for YoungWillz, and Francoise Gilot is a unique hit for Death Impends. Anita Cornwell does not have a QO for this game. I am not sure if it will come, to be honest. Let's see. Scorewise it wasn't that exciting at the top, but SalmonMousse missed Kaczynski, which might make a difference in the end. The field catches up though. Finally, another reminder to email me your midyear substitution picks, you can switch up to five names (with those on your team who are still living). I will put my two own substitutions in this thread in a couple of days to give you a heads--up. Currently debating with myself whether to pick Yevgeni Prigozhin....
