1 pointI think the next monarchs (since 1066) he overtakes next are King James II and then King Richard III.
-
1 pointI imagine that might have something to do with the fact that Parliament has been in recess since the 30th July. Do you go into work during your holidays?

1 pointThere's been a shocking number of young athletes losing their lives in various ways this week.

1 pointTerrific player, very underrated indeed and one of the best defenders in the Championship over the last 15 years. Terrible news. Played for Sven with Ivory Coast and apparently was Erikssons first signing at Leicester and now both are gone within a week.

1 pointThis is the last day for scoring on this pool! With corrections needed to gcreptile's score, he has taken a comfortable lead and looks like our champion. But I am going to leave the final decision open for another week to allow all of you to double check for more omissions/errors in the scoring table. I will also post scores for the 4 unlisted players in the next few days whether they check in or not. Note again that I have a thread started for next season's game and entries are due in 10 days. Please recheck the rules at the start of the thread for minor rule changes! Enjoy!

1 pointLooks like we do have hit No.8: German actor and voice actor Thomas Reiner has died on July 27th, 2024. The obituary was published yesterday: https://trauer.sueddeutsche.de/traueranzeige/thomas-reiner To be honest, I had never heard of him before he was suggested for the list.

1 pointI know you're trolling, but it's important to engage with even the thickest of society in the forlorn hope that this leads to a realisation that there's a better path forward. 1. You give some very detailed explanations of the reasons why the space program is entirely fictitious (as of the mid-20th century) due to the inability to pass through the Van Allen radiation belt (I've never heard of radiation being a solid barrier, but there we go, you live and learn). Could you give me details of where you did your PhD in Astrophysics and who your instructor was that gave you this detailed inside knowledge? 2. We'd discover that we don't live on a globe circling through space? So something that between them Galileo and Copernicus not only proved to be the case, but also that we can observe, without technology beyond optics, with our own eyes - unless Earth is the only body in the solar system that is not spheroid in shape. 3. Our space program is hi-tech movie production, and presumably has been since the 1960s when we discovered we couldn't pass through the Van Allen Belt. Odd then that their production values still vastly outstrip the conventional movie industry from which they emerged. And that the vast production team required in this fake space movie industry have all kept their mouths shut for the past 60 years. I mean, not a single person has broken the secret! 4. Speaking of which, it is a historical fact that for the majority of the second half of the 20th century, there was a battle for supremacy between the capitalist West, led by the United States and the communist East, led by the Soviet Union, both of whom conducted the so-called 'Space Race' which saw the Soviets achieve most "firsts" (undisputed by the Americans) and the Americans land a man on the moon first (undisputed by the Soviets). How did this work? Did both sides fictionalise the entire geopolitical tension of the late 20th century or did they just agree to fake the Space Race? Because if either side believed the other had not achieved what they claimed to have, do you not think they would have publicised this fact? 5. Finally, we no longer "possess technology from 20th century's rocket program anymore because it was all abandoned". You do realise the rocketry knowledge we used to power those "failed" rocket attempts came from the Nazis use of said technology during World War 2 (Werner von Braun, V2s, etc.)? And that, even if we go along with your ridiculous notion that the entire space program is made-up, then without said rocketry knowledge there would be no cruise missiles, of the sort that are fired all over the world all the time (by Hezbollah into Israel overnight in fact!). I look forward to your reasoned and detailed answers to my points.

1 pointSo turns out James Marcus died 4 years ago(!) He's listed in the GRO Index: JAMES, BRIAN TERENCE 1942 GRO Reference: DOR Q2/2020 in LAMBETH (241-1A) Entry Number 520566190 and in the Probates: James Brian Terence 4 May 2020 11 February 2021 1604916654714745 Sad, but it happens I guess. Marcus is the 2nd of the 4 droogs from A Clockwork Orange to die after Warren Clarke (1947–2014). The others are Michael Tarn (b. 1953) and, of course, Malcolm McDowell (b. 1943). Tarn looks as if he could die off radar as he's not done much of note since. Other surviving credited actors from the film are Clive Francis (b. 1946), Steven Berkoff (b. 1937), Carol Drinkwater (b. 1948), Gaye Brown (b. 1941 – also one of the Trannies in Rocky Horror), Prudence Drage (b. 1943), Cheryl Grunwald (b. 1948), Gillian Hills (b. 1944), Virginia Wetherell (b. 1943), and Katya Wyeth (b. 1948). All had minor roles – vast majority of main cast are dead.

1 pointThere's nothing like an old one! Great Uncle Bulgaria is the only player to score with the world's oldest woman! (Meant in a purely gameplay sort of way, nothing to see here). Maria Branyas Morera disappears from view, but hurtling up the leaderboard comes our most important Womble. With their first proper hit, they play an Ace, meaning a bonus of 5 points. Well done! Leaderboard updated.

1 pointAbbie is a proper WTF case. Ill for years, breathing issues, overweight, hospital recently and still going. Lawler's on the downward spiral imo. Flair. Dunno how he's alive. Crazy clearly doesn't listen to the reaper. Jake is the last person I ever expected to listen to doctors advice on how to prolong your life with COPD. Duggans a weird one. Fairly robust but has lots of health crisis in-between. Can only beat cancer so many times. Bret's ok. He's a bit frail from the stroke but that's just him for life. Wouldn't be surprised if he outlived another few brothers. What's Bruce up to these days? Marty Jannetty is a nutter addict, not sure how he's still alive. Heidenreich has a number of health issues. Had heard Dutch Mantel has been ill. Dennis Condrey had throat cancer for ages and looked like shit recently. Bobby Fulton still ill. Watch the ecw addicts who have gone quiet, Justin Credible for example. Tugboats still going somehow as is bloody Sir Mo. Ahmed Johnson has suspected dementia, Earl Hebner is meant to going the same way as his brother and Sabu is suffering the least surprising neurological problems in history. Both of Demolition have early signs of dementia. None getting the last rites but the 1940s where 90% of the name wrestlers born then died before the age of 76 looks like it was repeat with the 1950s and maybe even the 1960s. Incidentally Boris Zhukov has migraines, memory loss, blackouts and dizziness and still works as a long distance truck driver. The American dream!
