First: HE'S NOT DEAD. Just some topical humour I thought some in these parts might appreciate...

Tumor removed and they told me it was non-malignant. Post-surgery ICU was an...experience with the stablizing my BP etc, but I was not in much pain and felt safe having nurses in the same room 24/7. Worst part might've been having the cannulas, catheter and other stuff removed. In the next bed there was a 70-something woman who'd had a more dangerous tumor (meningioma) removed and got out of ICU (and out of hospital) before me, and even asked the nurses if the other patients are okay. Standard hospital room was much more "boring" but tricked me into getting up and walking around. I'm out of hospital now, left with a gnarly scar with around 20 staples, slight occasional dizziness, back pain, a pair of hospital socks etc...hoping I won't get any complications. Thank you all who wished me well.

John Reid also struck me as someone who I didn't expect to see old bones. 77 is practically 97 for a former chain smoker from his part of the World.

Undoubtedly most famous here in the U.S. for carrying an injured Kerri Strug off the mat, after she completed what she believed to be the gold medal-clinching vault for Team USA at the 1996 Games in Atlanta.

In case anyone here was remotely curious about how this worked out, I am pleased to report it has gone very well. Date #2 to be arranged soon.

I saw Michael Howard walking down the street about two weeks ago with his wife who also still looks good for her age. He looked fine but he's at an age where he could go into decline fairly quickly.

Just checked his Wiki and he's 78 next year, to my surprise. Including the current Home Secretary, there are 18 living individuals who have held that office. Almost enough for a DDP theme team! Half of them are aged 70+... Douglas Hurd (94), Kenneth Baker (90), Ken Clarke (84), Michael Howard (83), Jack Straw (78), David Blunkett (77), John Reid (77), Charles Clarke (74), Alan Johnson (74). I wouldn't be surprised if we lost a couple of these by the end of 2025. Both Ken Clarke and Charles Clarke (no relation to our non-British friends) have always struck me as prime heart attack territory. Douglas Hurd has lasted a long time... 95 in March, not seen in public anymore. Should be on the Deathlist next year.

Suffers a fall whilst boarding a train. The article also mentions a recent heart attack which requires him to take blood thinners.

Have fun in America @gcreptile and lets hope you won't get blamed for any deaths while out there.

Let's just pretend. It's funnier this way.

I don't agree that it's superfluous - the two have different meanings. Hating something can be passive - you can hate the NHS, in this example, without ever saying something about it. Hating on something, on the other hand, is vocally and publicly criticising it - which is something you can also do if you don't feel hatred towards the thing.

Celeste Caeiro dead at 91. Once mentioned by Spade as a possibility for 2022, she gave flowers to soldiers in 1973, hence the name Carnation Revolution.

I nearly didn't make it today. RBL service was in our village so felt I ought to go. Set the alarm for 0900, woke up just before, switched the alarm off and the next thing I knew it was 1015 Rapidly dressed and put face on, fed the dog and took short cut through the fields to arrive at the church as the parade did. Decent turnout.

That is an unfortunate by-product of these secular times. I prefer to be cremated to my remains being buried in a grave with a tasteless headstone for a decade or two, then being moved to a mass grave. Saves time, room, effort and money.
