This isn't helping her claim to fame in your eyes, ist it?
Book 3,556 Posted January 1, 2022 I would have preferred another Estelle on the list : Estelle Parsons. American film and Broadway actress. Oscar winner for her role in "Bonnie & Clyde". 7 times Tony-nominee. Played also in sitcoms like "Roseanne". 94 y/o. Lost her husband last year.

Leon Brittan 293 Posted January 1, 2022 Estelle Harris is certainly more well known than some rugby commentator and a terrorist bomber.
Death Impends 7,963 Posted January 1, 2022 I wonder if Seinfeld is one of those committee-friendly shows, ala how much they liked using names from the Dick Van Dyke/Mary Tyler Moore-sphere. I guess if Liz Sheridan ever appeared that would confirm it.

I.R.Baboon 221 Posted January 5, 2022 Well, I hardly know anyone of my generation (late thirties) who hasn't watched seinfeld. And it's almost impossible to watch Seinfeld but to forget about George's parents.

Sid Caesar, Rodney Dangerfield, George Burns, or more recently, Carl Reiner, Mel Brooks and Jerry Stiller - with some of these growing up and learning their trade in New York before moving to California. You can already predict that Woody Allen will eventually be on the list, and Jerry Seinfeld, too, if the list lives long enough. (Edit: other names: Larry David, Bette Midler, Billy Crystal (!)) Except for Mel Brooks, these names have all been successes for the list, by the way.
The Old Crem 3,583 Posted January 6, 2022 Seinfeld didn’t do that well in the Uk- not compared to some other USA comedies of that era. The only time I’ve ever heard it mentioned outside of forums was seeing a box set of it on the shelf at a relatives house (1970’s born couple). Her British obituaries when she goes might well lead with Mrs Potato Head.

The Old Crem 3,583 Posted January 27, 2022 I wonder how she has been coping as a widow. It’s been just over a year since her husband died.

On point. I'm that 1% that knows Estelle Harris but just because I keep confusing her with Estelle Parsons and Rosemary Harris (maybe just like the DL committee). She's fun to listen to as a kid but I thought she died years ago.
Cerberus 302 Posted February 1, 2022 'Actress' surely? I suspect this is a generational thing, I doubt if the likes of Helen Mirren, Maggie Smith or Judi Dench would describe themselves as an 'actor.' Glenda Jackson, possibly.

I suspect this is a generational thing, I doubt if the likes of Helen Mirren, Maggie Smith or Judi Dench would describe themselves as an 'actor.' Glenda Jackson, possibly. I've moaned about this before. Acting is a profession where the sex of the individual is relevant. If you are a casting director looking to cast a female role, you will (with very few exceptions) be looking for a female actor. Or a male actor for a male role. It is useful to have words which distinguish between the two, and it seems foolish in the extreme to discard them for the sake of "inclusivity" (if that's the word).
Grim Up North 3,725 Posted February 1, 2022 It would seem foolish in the extreme to dispense with the word ‘actress’ to replace it with the alternative of ‘female actor’. 1 1

I saw enough from the adverts to know I would hate the show. Every time I saw Jerry I had an urge to punch smug fuck in the face (or kick the neighbour's cat)
