DevonDeathTrip 2,358 Posted July 5 I see Cruella Braverman got back in. I'm sure she'll be there to help steady the ship during her party's wilderness years
gcreptile 10,966 Posted July 5 Looks to me like Labour really got the most out of what they could possibly get within these rules and this world. If this was done with proportional representation Labour would probably lead a LAB-LIB government. Their absolute vote was overestimated in the polls and doesn't compare to Blair's victories. So Starmer has a giant mandate that he will have to use to shape his party to a future when Labour isn't the default choice. I now get why Corbyn's Labour was regarded as weak on anti-semitism, and why he was wishy-washy on Brexit. He was trying to keep his extremely diverse coaltion together. Starmer will have this problem, too. On the other hand, the Reform/Tory conflict wont go away. It'll be Civil War over there. And Ed Davey struck gold with his campaign which is unlikely to be repeated.
Toast 16,131 Posted July 5 There were some extremely welcome departures, but sadly some very unwelcome survivors too. Braverman. Badenoch. Patel. Kruger. There sre more names you can add.

No Tories in Cornwall - that's the surprise. But the hated Tamar Bridge tolls going up again to £3 certainly played a massive part in SE Cornwall reading my social media this morning. The Old Crem 3,582 Posted July 5 Harrow East is now the Tories safest seat. The Hindu vote is now the strongest voter demographic for the Tories as Reform failed to appeal at all. Might well be a demographic that if Tories and Reform merge that ends up forming it’s own Party through.

Aye, if they ever kick the man out at home he might fancy his last few political years somewhere less frantic, like Britain

En Passant 3,741 Posted July 5 There are some things that once put there seem nearly impossible to erase from your mind whether you want to or not. (the earworm tunes in those #1 series for a start) No matter what I think of Farage (can't stand the bloke as it happens) or of silly comparisons to Nazi's, I simply cannot get: Sieg Heil-on-Sea Out of my head. You're welcome.
TQR 14,386 Posted July 5 An update on SBET: 80 votes are being contested, apparently there are numerous bundles with the wrong party within them. It's a big old shambles basically. What is clear, though, is it's rather shockingly a tossup between Labour and Reform, and the incumbent Tory Stephen Metcalfe is history.
