Surely watching Nadine Dories dealing with a Tory wipeout will be great entertainment?

Tory Chairman Richard Holden has had a load of his campaign leaflets sent to the good people of Wickford.

Problem is, that's the wrong constituency.

Worsley And Eccles constituency.

Meantime, I received a load of bumf (bumph? bumough?) from the parties through the letter box today. Every damn one of them was printed in the south of England.

Only Alba had a Scottish print address - in the constituency, no less!

Yet apart from Reform, the others all claimed to be from the Scottish branch of the party!

I received my first election literature - addressed to me personally, no less - today. Its from the greens, so it had better be on recycled paper.

Labour suspend candidate Kevin Craig who is standing in central Suffolk & north Ipswich due to an investigation by the gambling commission.

Yes, interestingly not for betting on the date of the election as the others have been. It appears he bet that he would lose his seat, which has a large Conservative majority. Ironically, his suspension from the Labour Party presumably makes this now a fait accompli.

Will it fuck, it'll be consistent variations on "should have stuck with Boris" every time there's a Portillo moment

Yep, she'll sit there with a smug look on her face explaining how ditching Boris was disastrous and Rishi is getting everything he deserves. She'll enjoy the Tory wipeout more than Alastair Campbell.

I was confused there, as I had that down as a Labour seat.  But the Conservative MP has defected to Labour and is not standing again. So it's only technically Labour atm.

Seriously, why are they continuing with this strategy? They've been trying to smear her since Sunak announced the election and 3 weeks later (when this poll is from) her net favourability ratings beat everyone! I love Angela Rayner.

Jesus Christ, it's like this whole Tory campaign has been run by Simpsons characters. Certainly feels like we're living through an episode.

'Mayor Quimby even released Sideshow Bob, a man twice convicted of attempted murder. Would YOU trust a man like Mayor Quimby? Vote Sideshow Bob for mayor'.

Yet another Tory being investigated by the Gambling Commision for placing a bet on the date of the election.

https://www.theguardian.com/politics/article/2024/jun/25/election-betting-fifth-tory-investigated-in-growing-scandal

Russell George is a sitting member of the Senedd and represents to same constituency as Craig Williams. He has said that he is stepping back from his position in the shadow cabinet, so that makes it all ok then. FFS

This is too stupid for words. They are so corrupt they think an insider knowledge that nets them what? The price of a cheap meal out and a few beers is worth it or they won't get caught? Clown shoes.

Wonder if anyone even remotely connected with any other party put a bet on? At least then they could claim it wasn't just those who knew the date beforehand....

No chance. That's my bet on it.

What I don't think got mentioned but I've seen since is that Labour strategists spotted the spike in the betting, and started spending money buying ad space and printing campaign literature. The Tories' greed and self-interest ended up giving their opponents a head start on Sunak's "surprise" announcement. And it's been going swimmingly ever since.

On yesterday's BBC Newscast, Paddy O'Connell made the point that the spike in betting seems much larger than the cases already in the public domain, suggesting there are plenty more who may eventually be implicated...perish the thought...

My Apologies to @Brad252 - Missed that.

Who was spending their time looking for, or knew to look? Or even had access to that information though?

FT is a fortune to subscribe as well, I looked, since (see other posts) I'm a bit fed up of The Graun.

I've no idea how you track betting trends, but I know it can be done. The whispers are that Labour spotted the moves in the weekend before Sunak made the announcement on the...Wednesday I think it was? Money well spent on whoever they employed to track these things!
