The Dead of 2024

Looks like popular movie website Aveleyman is dead.

The home page has been replaced with a big sign that simply reads "GAME OVER".

A pity. The best website on the web for putting an actor's face to a name.

I noticed this a few days ago and just assumed that it was under maintenance for the New Year or something. It'll be a pain for wiki editors as it was one of the most common sites used for sourcing the birth and death dates of actors, and I know on Wikipedia it was occasionally linked at the bottom of an article like IMDb is.

Why is Beckenbauer not showing as dead on the 2024 death list?  Normally the list gets updated very quickly.

Not quite sure where to put this one.

It's a personal loss as well.

Mike Jann, local musician (Minnesota) passed away last night. He used to play guitar in the late 50s alongside Tony Andreason who went on to be the lead vocalist and guitarist for The Trashmen

Mike would go on to be a main part of the road crew for The Trashmen. He set up the photo shoot for the cover of their debut album. He also painted their tour van which can be seen on the cover of their album Live Bird 65-67

Mike was such a a sweet guy who would regale us with tales of the road. He had been in declining health since his wife passed away in 2020.

Aye, posted elsewhere about that - some statto who is better than the rest of us could likely tell us what the implications of that hit-rate are. In other words, at what hour of what summer day would we run out of deaths if they kept carking off the DL at this rate?

If we take the 7th as the date of death and extrapolate this pro rata then 50 hits would come around 4pm on 26th April. If we go with the 8th then we are looking at 8am on 13th May

Have the Times cut the budget for Obituaries. Seem to be less of them recently and also taking longer to publish ones. Not as bad as the Guardian who in the last few days seem to be only be publishing ones for BBC coverage level type names.

All news outlets have cut budgets for everything. But looking at it from a newspaper's point of view, what's going to get more clicks - a Franz Beckanbauer obit or a Tony Clarkin obit?

Paging @DoorSlammer Nico Brandsen has died aged 63.

One of those guaranteed death types, he announced last July he had a brain tumour and only 6 to 9 months to live. Pleasantly surprised he made my obit rule. My 2nd hit of the year.
