If I understood correctly, each country only gets one representative.

Yeah, it's looking like being quite boring on the international front: heads of state and spouses only due to space in the Abbey.

While Carter and other former US presidents were not invited to the funeral on account of space constraints, they were all sent invitations to the Washington National Cathedral for a special ceremony to be held on Wednesday.

Will be interesting to see if Jimmy makes the trip.

New picture from his Facebook page today, both him and Rosalynn looking pretty good if you ask me. Jimmy turns 98 a week from today.

May be an image of 3 people and outdoors

I can't see anything. Just a blank space.

Try refreshing the page or closing your tab down altogether and then going back. I couldn't see it either until just a minute ago.

Well you should've invited them to the funeral!

It’s fine. We left Biden in the 7th row or something.

George III was still too soon…

So do you guys think he still has a full-on Secret Service?

He still does, as I believe all Presidents are entitled to Secret Service protection for life. I found this article from 2018 that discusses that a little bit, to contrast it with his generally modest retirement (his house is apparently worth less than the vehicle portion of his security detail) :https://www.seattletimes.com/nation-world/jimmy-carter-shuns-riches-and-lives-modestly-in-his-georgia-hometown/

“He’s still 100% with it, even though daily life things are a lot harder now,” Jason Carter said. “But one thing I guarantee. He will watch all the Braves games this weekend.”

Jason Carter said the former president reads and watches the news daily, and sometimes accepts calls or visits from political figures. But, he added, the former president isn’t expected to appear publicly to endorse any candidates ahead of November.

“His people that he feels sort of the closest connection with now are the folks in Plains, at his church and other places,” Jason Carter said. “But, you know, his partner No. 1, 2 and 3 is my grandma, right? He has outlived friends and so many of his advisers and the people that he accomplished so much with in the past, but they’ve never been lonely because they’ve always had each other.”

I could see him and Rosalynn going pretty soon one after each other. Possibly a lot closer than George and Barbara Bush.

Still feel he will fall just short of his century like with Prince Philip and Betty White.

He has to be the biggest name alive of the current list right ?

I feel Kissinger is bigger purely because his name is closely associated with significant events in history and thus his name always appears in history books. Carter was a forgettable U.S. president. Our perception of his prominence is perhaps clouded on this site because we’ve been discussing him for years.

The first picture of a US president at 98, and probably the only one in our lifetime.

I would be surprised if Clinton made 98, and Biden also seems to be getting a little frail. I can see Dubya making it though.

Just wondering now that you mention that.

Does Bush jr look better at 76, then his father back when he was 76
