Agreed. He regularly gives media interviews and sounds very much all there (mostly tributes these days to deceased colleagues). He also looks in good shape physically and could easily pass for ten years younger. With a fair wind, he will hopefully be around for a good while longer.

Yep and being a keeper probably less susceptible to Alzheimers/Dementia compared to outfield contemporaries at least.

Ex-Rangers star Dapo Mebude has been rushed to hospital after a horror car crash and is in a critical condition

Think he's recovering. KV Oostende statement says: "“We received positive news about Dapo Mebude : his condition is improving daily and step by step he is recovering from his injuries.”

In other news - he has a brother who is also a promising footballer but rejoices in the name of Dire!

Just a quick listmania following Der Kaiser's death.

Still-living Ballon d'Or podium-placers pre-1970

Karl-Heinz Schnellinger (3rd 1962)

Gianni Rivera (2nd 1963, 1st 1969)

Denis Law (1st 1964)

Dragan Džajić (1968 3rd)

Gigi Riva (2nd, 1969)

Law obviously on the DL and presumably a Drop 40 for this year. Rivera looked pretty good in this interview for his 80th birthday last year. Džajić is still active as head of the Serbian FA. Riva still turns up on Italian football coverage now and then but he never had the healthiest lifestyle. And I have no clue about Schnellinger, any of our German boardmembers have any inside details?

Four left.

May be too early but Gianni Rivera has still not commented on Riva's death.

Comments arrived from Zoff, Sacchi, Boninsegna, Fabio Capello and Marcello Lippi.

Since of Gerd Muller two and half years ago, we’ve lost several former or current top goalscorers of national teams :

Gerd Muller (record beaten by Klose)

Pelé (record beaten after his death by Neymar)

Just Fontaine (record beaten in 1984 by Platini and then by 7 other players)

Bobby Charlton (record beaten by Rooney in 2015 and Kane in 2022)

Gigi Riva (still top goalscorer of Italy)

Someone posted in Startiger that a somewhat obscure German footballer Klaus Scheinig who played for Hertha BSC from 1963-65, died 1½ years ago according to his wife20240125_222900.thumb.jpg.919d6b9d2d76f8903a7462f17d23bab4.jpg

While waiting for Jason Smith QO, came across this photo of former Newcastle chairman Sir John Hall, who I assumed was long dead.

Seems to be doing OK for 90.

George Burley could be next, imo.

George Burley showed up on BBC1 just there. For an alcoholic Scot in his late 60s, he looked and sounded better than I thought he would tbh.

Time has already posted, but yep, Stuart Gray has died.

He played a long time for Reading, and he now becomes, by far, the most recent Reading FC death (it was Neale Cooper, 1992). Not entirely sure if the club will last a lot longer than Stuart, to be honest.

Didn't quite.reach his initial potential, but very able for us, RIP.

To be honest he doesn’t look much different to how he looked when he was Ipswich manager 20 odd years ago, John Wark looked far worse to me, looks older than 67.

John Wark looked pretty old when he was still playing in fairness
