If anyone went through with setting up a pay-to-play dead pool hosted on this forum, then that would be the one time I'd use admin powers to actually intervene with a dead pool given I'd really rather not have something in such a legal gray area hosted on here. Not that it would come to that point, as the court of public opinion already shows that very few people here would actually want to enter a pay-to-play.

I'm sometimes doubtful that these dates don't tally with all the other reported sources. Had a quick search of the Surrey Birth records and there is an Edward V Johnson born in 1919 in the right area. Can't find anything for 1920. So the obit is likely correct. Edit: Everybody wants to be a Cat, 'cos a Cat's the only thing, who knows where it's at.....

I will say that from what I read, he’s certainly one of the most fascinating people I picked in a dead pool, going from an orphan at age 4 to being a very influential sportscaster in Taiwan to his advocacy of euthanasia in the last few years and everything in between...

No on the money aspect of it. First off, I legally can’t participate in this because I’m under 18 and gambling under 18 is illegal. But even if I was old enough to participate, I still would be very against the idea of paying to play a dead pool. This would eliminate all the people who either are under age, those who can’t afford it, and those who don’t gamble, and one of the beauty’s of dead pooling is that everyone can have the option to participate in it if they want to. Plus, while assume that your a good mannered person, I can’t guarantee that the money that I won would get payed back. So, please don’t make this pay to play.

I note that a late obit for Jerry Maren came in early June. His date of death is listed as May 24, a month in which our leader, Sean, had him at the 4 pt slot. I was about to award him retroactive points, but further investigation uncovered a violation of the consecutive months rule, as he had Jerry Maren in his 5 pt slot for April. I'll preface this by saying that I'm not a doctor. A cardiac arrest most commonly affects people in their 60s but it can also strike young, athletic people. Almost all of the time it's because of a pre-existing condition like coronary artery disease or cardiomyopathy. Not only was Victoria inactive from being in a wheelchair, but until recently doctors believed that the oldest people have lived so long because they've beaten all those conditions with their amazing genes. They typically pick up an infection or they just stop eating. That was until a Dutch woman called Hendrikje van Andel-Schipper died at 115 and donated her body to science. What did she die of? A cold? Dehydration? No, she had stomach cancer which had metastasized and would have killed a young person. This is the first time I've come across a 110-year-old having a cardiac arrest but more research will be done in the future which might find that it's not uncommon.
