I'm still working on our pumpkin. A graveyard theme this year. The kids don't normally come up our road as there's no pavements, but there is a nice little lad who lives opposite who will probably come over. Down in the middle of the village there are floating pumpkins on the pond, which always look attractively spooky.

Happy Halloween to all. It really IS one of my favourite holidays, maybe second to Christmas. This marks the first time ever I will not be able to take my daughter out trick or treating, as I am stuck on a job 250 miles away. And the poor kids where I am (Henderson TX) are going to get hit with 3+ inches of rain starting about 4pm so forget trick or treating this year. I hope it holds off back in Lafayette, LA. SC

Former Green Bay Packers offensive lineman Bob Skoronski has died at age 84. He played with the Packers during the 1960s under Coach Vince Lombardi. Skoronski pro football career started in 1956 when the Packers drafted the offensive tackle out of Indiana University in the fifth round. He not only captained the Packers' Super Bowl championship teams in the '60s, but he was a Pro Bowl selection in 1966 and earned himself a spot in both the Green Bay Hall of Fame (1976) and on the Packers' all-time Modern Era Team. I quite like my job. Very occasional contact with the public (Manchester Muslims due next month to bless the fish as I kill them is next scheduled date). No cunto phoning you, fun cutting about in boats in bad weather, stunning place to work, wildlife aplenty etc etc. Downside is you're outside all day, virtually no shelter, no electricity/toilet, hefty work at times and if you get wet at 8am, you ain't gonna dry out by 4pm, especially in Winter. On balance, that's preferable to dealing with The Public, they are cunts one and all.
