Well the first thread I have ever started made the second page so I haven’t had to suffer the shame of it being closed down or merged - I can die happy.

Just spotted Mel Brooks trending on Twitter and thought the worst. But it seems he was trending because of a coronavirus social distancing joke video he made with his son.

This is about as close to a sporting event as is happening around the world right now - can't be long before we start getting interest from Sky and BT Sport.

Writing from one of those slum cities, people here are in some cases panicking (or at least loads of hoax WA messages going around), but because viruses degrade quickly in tropical air or direct sunshine, the indirect transmission is much slower (there is direct transmission, but there are many other diseases here too to worry about that are worse). It's almost like "the rest of the world is panicking so we better panic too". The far far bigger problem is that the tourism/travel sector has closed down, foreign investors are withdrawing, millions will be unemployed (most people have zero savings), and civil unrest on a large scale is likely to follow. I don't really see how the government can avoid this. We have a bolthole outside the city on the side of a volcano (let's hope it doesn't wake up and join in the fun), and we can stay here for months if needed. I can work remotely (assuming my UK head office doesn't go bust). Let's see what happens!

His individual ailments don't seem to be that bad, but taken all together, he's in a real risk.

I know we say this a lot with a grain of salt but the words "It's coming nearer" should be taken more serious. The Deathlist site is more or less a tongue in cheek site not to be taken too serious, but now I myself feel I'm at risk. I'm not in the key Demograph that's to serious in danger (old people or people with underlying illnesses) but last week I stayed in a hotel in the Province of North Brabant in the Netherlands. This province is the hot spot in the Netherlands and any cough you make over there gets you a suspicious look, even though you might be suffering from an innocent flu. As of this week all restaurants and cafe's are closed. Hotels are still open but the restaurant part of them is not. So getting something to eat is already a challenge if you're not at home. Schools are shut so people with children are more or less force to take care of their children now they are at home. I already had to fill in for someone else (I don't have children) who had to stay home. Stay save everyone.....

Fun fact: there has only ever been one UK #40 single with the word "virus" in the title: Iron Maiden's 1996 single "Virus", which got to #16. Mutiny UK's " The Virus" (a kind of faux Detroit house joint) got to #42 in 2001, and Stanton Warriors (remember them?) got to #91 in 2004 with "Da Virus".

Given my flatmate who is watching a Golden Girls marathon with me ( heck anything is more cheerful than the news) was stunned when I corrected him that they'd not all passed away. Good olde Betty White gawd love her.

I'm starting to get a bit scared of this thing.I've never felt like that about anything before. I'm almost resigned to memebrs of my family dying from it. I have diabetes so I'm at risk. I don't really care about myself, but it worries m e to death that my elderly parents might get it. Anyone else feel the same way ?
