I don't remember André Maranne in anything. I looked at the Fawlty Towers episode that kept being mentioned and he was in it for about two seconds.

One name that stuck out to me during Scavenger research was James Watson. Probably the most famous scientific Nobel Laureate for co-discovering DNA. Looks like utter shit. Tommy Lasorda should also make an appearance due to his recent health. And not only should Pope Benedict XVI return, but he should be a top 10 pick.

Thing is, these people are only locally notable. When I lived in a city in the 80s/90s, there was a busker who occupied the same spot year in year out, and when he died of cancer he got a mention in the local paper because everyone who ever went shopping in the city centre would have recognised him. Going further back, in the town where I went to school there was a distinctive looking tramp (as parlance then had it) who was always seen around town. Eventually he was persuaded to be housed somewhere, and he went up in the world as a newspaper seller who had a pitch by the bus stop. His eventual demise was also reported in the local rag. Nowadays it's easier to achieve slightly wider awareness because of the internet. But they're not properly famous.

Nice that President Carter has lived long enough to see his friend become president.

The Duchess of Kent should also be considered.

Doug Jones could squeak by in 2017 because he was running in a special election against the worst senatorial candidate in recent history. It's worth noting that Jones didn't really peel off a lot of Republican voters - the biggest reason he won was because Moore was bad enough to significantly depress Republican turnout in a special election where that was the only race on the ballot. Had Roy Moore been the GOP candidate this year, even he would have won easily thanks to the presidential turnout (albeit perhaps by an embarrassing margin for an Alabama Republican).

I would also consider for their DL debuts Johnny Mathis Don Everly Bob Newhart

I definitely considered Felton briefly cause he seemed to be the Billy Clayton of 2020 at first glance, but disregarded him cause wasn’t sure if they would follow up on him. So this is not bad faith pick of Reptile. Definitely am disappointed that it’s only through the FFBI angle. Hopefully when Petefest/Birmingham Music Awards come he gets a bit of a more proper obit...

Well, in the end Pete Felton is just as important to the team as, say, Alex Trebek, or David Hagen. It's the timing that puts the focus on him now. In terms of fame, well, he was apparently well-known in Birmingham as a street singer, or busker as they are apparently called. He also released an EP on iTunes, as many up-and-coming artists do today: https://music.apple.com/us/album/the-road-less-travelled-ep/1424547565 He had an appearance on a BBC casting show, was in fact, invited to it, possibly because of his local notability. He was well-known enough that there is a music festival PeteFest in his name, and he gave his name to a street music award at the Birmingham Music awards: https://www.facebook.com/watch/?v=206015500641057 I think there is some local notability (fame is stretching it too far though), and his musical output is the same as 2019 DDP pick Billy Clayton. But Pete didn't tweet as often. Clayton had his very media active mother to make him further known. Felton had his wife. It would have been more elegant had the QO come through himself, not through his widow's sob story. That is indeed a little disappointing.

Thank you for bringing this to my attention. Gorbachev might deserve an inclusion on the 2021 DL after all.

Oh aye and... Deathrace Form Guide #1 Michael Ball 58 year old singer and generally entertaining sort who had a chart topper this year. Despite a distinct encroaching jowliness and a frame suggesting a certain fondness for a snack, Ball continues to canter through a conspicuously successful career with no major blips since his partner - former Ready Steady Go presenter Cathy McGowan - saved his life by dragging him from a house fire 20 years ago. So, move along - nowt by way of begging Deathrace points so see here, then!

I'm going to throw Yoko Ono into the mix as a name members should consider voting onto the crowdsourced list given recent reports and indications of declining health.
